Student answer (Band 5.0)
At present, brands and companies highlight that their products are unique from the existing using multiple advertisements. I totally believe that this is a positive develpment as it can result in various discoveries.
I would argue it as a positive development, because it results in a multiple number of discoveries whether science, medicine or technology. For example: Mobile phones or computers whenever a company introduce a new feature in market it influences its competitor to do more or to introduce a feature far more better then this. Every new feature in a product starts a race in the market which means these advertisements accounts a lot for every new deveoplment in technology.
Lets take another field, medicine for instance. In medical field a numerous amount of companies are competing with one and other, and in such harsh market conditions if a company launches a new medicine for a disease which was previously not curable would probably shake the overall market to launch a better medicine for the same disease in a cheaper price. Consequently, it would result in a number of multiple option in better prices and with far more good results.
In conclusion. I

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 195 words and cutting off abruptly mid-sentence ("In conclusion. I"). While the candidate attempts to address both parts of the prompt—explaining why businesses emphasise new products and giving an opinion on whether this is positive—the ideas are severely underdeveloped due to the premature ending. The position that it is a positive development is stated, but the arguments regarding discoveries in technology and medicine lack sufficient extension and depth. Because the length requirement is not met and the conclusion is unfinished, this significantly impacts the overall task achievement, resulting in a band score of 4.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates some basic organizational structure with an introduction and two body paragraphs, but the text is cut off before a proper conclusion can be formed. Cohesive devices are used, such as "For example" and "Consequently," but referencing and paragraph linking feel somewhat mechanical. The logical progression is hindered by the abrupt termination of the response. Paragraphing is attempted, but the incomplete final sentence disrupts the overall flow and structural integrity of the essay. Based on these limitations in cohesion and incomplete progression, a band score of 5.0 is appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student displays a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting words like "competitor," "curable," and "consequently." However, there are several noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as "develpment" instead of development, "one and other" instead of one another, and awkward phrasing like "a multiple number of discoveries" and "in a cheaper price" instead of at a cheaper price. These lexical inaccuracies and occasional spelling mistakes cause some minor difficulty for the reader, aligning the response with the Band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and relative clauses (e.g., "a medicine for a disease which was previously not curable"). However, control over grammar is inconsistent, featuring frequent errors such as punctuation mistakes in sentence boundaries, missing articles, and awkward phrasing ("these advertisements accounts a lot"). Furthermore, the response is incomplete, which restricts the range of demonstrated grammatical structures. Despite these errors, the core meaning of the sentences is usually understandable, making a band score of 5.0 a fair evaluation.
