Student answer (Band 5.5)

Recently companies started to emphasise on new features that are added to products during promotions. Although companies wants to make profit by exploiting people choices, it will have bad impacts on the good well of the organization in a long term.

High competition in the business sector has increased. Which is making it difficult for the businesses to sell a product that was introduced a year ago, so in order to attract customers and compete in the market they have to add new features into their items. It helps the organization to survive and generate revenue without investing large amount of budget at the same time. For example, why a clothes manufacturing companies should pay a huge amount of money to a designer to design a new suit.when they can change it themselves without extra investing.

However it is not beneficial in a long term. In my opinion if a company wants to be a successful entity in upcoming times they need to introduce new products and services, which will keep the consumers loyal. In contrast, companies who are exagerating their products during advertisemnets will lead to trust issues with clients. At the end customers will no longer visit such places which are relying on fake and over exageration in promotions of products. For instance, a company telling the truth to the customers, and launching new services will generate high revenue and if they do add new feature for the sake of deceiving clients to make profit then the customers will be loyal to them.

To conclude, corporations who believe in originality and shows integrity will compete and lead the market despite not adding unnecessary changes in services, However, manipulating buyers through different techniques will cost the organization and may it lead to its default.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing why businesses emphasise new product features and giving an opinion on whether this development is positive or negative. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, the explanation regarding high competition and clothes manufacturing is superficial and lacks extension. While a position is presented, the arguments regarding consumer loyalty and deception are repetitive and lack fully articulated support. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to explore their ideas in greater depth with more fully elaborated examples and clear reasoning throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic logical organisation to the response, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing some overall progression. However, the use of cohesive devices is frequently mechanical or inadequate, such as the abrupt transitions using 'However' and 'In contrast' which do not always logically link the opposing arguments effectively. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from abrupt sentence breaks and referencing issues, such as starting a sentence with a dangling dependent clause ('Which is making it difficult...'). To improve, the writer must ensure smoother transitions between sentences and more accurate, varied cohesive devices to establish a clear and logical progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items such as 'corporations', 'integrity', and 'deceiving'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation that occasionally cause difficulty or appear unnatural, such as 'good well' instead of 'goodwill', 'people choices' instead of 'consumers' choices', and misspelling 'exagerating' instead of 'exaggerating'. The repetition of words like 'companies', 'products', and 'customers' limits lexical variety. To achieve a higher band, the writer should incorporate a wider range of precise vocabulary and collocations while eliminating spelling and word-choice errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside frequent faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('companies wants', 'corporations... shows'), missing articles ('in a long term' instead of 'in the long term'), and poor sentence boundaries, such as sentence fragments ('Which is making it difficult...'). Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma usage, are also present. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to increase the variety of error-free complex structures and improve overall grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding verb forms and article use.
