Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, businesses, for the advertisment of their products, try to show that their product is somehow different from the old ones. They not only try to differ new launched product from other rival companies' but also their own previous items. In my opinion, it is not a very good development.
This is a psychological trap. We are naturally attracted towards new things. Most of us adore new trends. Companies take advantage of this vulnerability. They emphasise that their newly launched thing is an advanced version of all the other of its sort. For example, if a shoe making company claims that their new shoes are not only stylish but also waterproof, public will try to buy them, when other shoes have only one feature, either stylish or waterproof. Today, this trick is used by almost all corporations such as Apple.
This trap makes customers to buy one. Sometimes, after getting that item, customers regret. They have bought it just for trying something new and ended up in loss. Because, such items are usually expensive even though there is not much difference between the old and the new product. For instance, every year a new Iphone version is launched. In the last few years, apple customers find variety only in the color or style rather than any specific technical feature of the mobile. Apple company have been using this trap for many years and earning a lot of money.
In conclusion, such advertisments are advantageous for the companies only. These sorts of traps are only for getting higher sales, not for the customers satisfactions. Unfortunately, still people always fall into this trap, just for the trend and the experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by explaining why businesses emphasise new products and offering a clear position that this is a negative development. The essay presents relevant ideas, such as the psychological appeal of novelty and the financial motives of corporations like Apple. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise, and certain supporting points, such as the example regarding waterproof shoes, could be extended further with deeper explanation. The stance is maintained clearly throughout, meeting the expectations for this performance level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical organisation. Information and ideas flow reasonably well, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the reasons for the trend, the consequences for customers, and the conclusion. However, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical or faulty, as seen in transitions like 'This trap makes customers to buy one' and referencing that could be smoother. It fully satisfies the lower band criteria and shows glimpses of the next by maintaining a clear line of thought throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas effectively. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'psychological trap', 'vulnerability', and 'corporations', though this is accompanied by some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'advertisment' and 'satisfactions'. Word-choice errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary chosen generally supports the clarity of the argument, reflecting a solid middle-tier performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure. There are errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('makes customers to buy one', 'launch of a new Iphone version'), awkward prepositional use, and pluralisation errors ('Apple company have'). These errors are noticeable and occur with some frequency, meaning the sentences are not error-free enough to reach a higher level, though they rarely impede the reader's overall understanding of the text.
