Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing why businesses emphasise novelty in advertising and offering a personal opinion that this is a positive development. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the notion that novelty creates hype is stated without sufficient explanation or robust supporting examples. The position is discernible in the introduction and conclusion, but the supporting arguments lack depth and rely on simplistic assertions, such as claiming that a unique feature makes a product worth millions of dollars. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend their arguments with more thorough explanations and relevant, well-elaborated examples rather than relying on brief, generalised statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation present, with distinct paragraphs attempting to introduce the topic, provide reasons, and share a personal anecdote. However, the overall progression is unclear and the logical flow is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or inaccurately, and referencing is sometimes confusing, as seen in abrupt transitions between sentences like 'the most unique feather of your product make it worth million of dollars.' Furthermore, paragraphing is not used effectively to separate distinct ideas, and the relationships between sentences often feel disjointed. To improve, the writer needs to ensure clear logical links between sentences and paragraphs, employing a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message about advertising and novelty. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('flayer' for flyer, 'feather' for feature, 'nodality' for novelty) and awkward word choices ('selling of different product', 'inflectional person'). These errors and inaccurate word forms cause some difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication. The range of vocabulary is restricted, and attempts to use less common items often result in incorrect collocations or spelling issues. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to precise word choice, and eliminate basic spelling and word-formation errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The business of selling different product is usually depend'), article omission, incorrect verb tenses, and awkward prepositional usage ('work on novelty'). These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader. Punctuation is also inconsistently handled. To progress to higher bands, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammatical structures, ensure accurate verb forms and agreement, and increase the proportion of error-free sentences when attempting complex grammatical patterns.
