Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt partially by discussing both why businesses emphasise new products and whether this is positive or negative, but the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding consumer psychology and company competition lacks sufficient extension, and the essay stops abruptly mid-sentence, leaving the conclusion incomplete. Additionally, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls significantly short of the two hundred and fifty-word minimum.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with attempts to structure the essay into an introduction, body points, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the text. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as the sudden transitions with 'So,' and 'However,'. Furthermore, paragraphing is unconventional and incomplete, with the final sentence trailing off without resolution, making the overall flow disjointed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the basic points of the prompt. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation, such as 'Social advertisment', 'key roll', 'prople', 'over exagerate', and 'plat with the mind', which create some difficulty for the reader and reflect a lack of control over less common lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the clause 'one major reason that why brands highlight... because they know...'. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing articles, incorrect prepositions, punctuation omissions, and subject-verb agreement issues, which cause strain and difficulty for the reader.
