Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent times, businesses in their advertising, commonly highlight that their manufactured items are somehow new. From my perspective, it is a positive development.
The most of the companies nowadays are trying to draw attention to the fact that their manufactured product is somehow new or different. This indicates that the market in very competetive now. Almost all the businesses are focusing on adding something new in their product so that they remain relevant in the market and can grab attention of the customers. As consumers are prone to keep using an item that has been proven to be good for them, they do not want to switch to another product that is from another company but with same benefits. So, when a business distributes a new product on market and advertise, it tries to grab customer's attention by focusing on how the newly marketed items are different from other available products in the market.
Besides, there are negative sides of this new types of markting too. Consumers become confused on what to buy and whether this new product is required or not. Sometimes, this advertisings end up being a complete bluff. Due to such false advertising, buyers are afraid to switch and try new the products. In the result of that, when a new company tries to enter the market with genuinely good and new products, it becomes harder to convince the customers to try that.
In conclusion we can say that, this new approach of marketing has both pros and cons in terms of development. Using this method inappropiately can lead to loose trust of the consumers and also hinder the growth of new companies. But on the other hand, this marketing strategy make the market competetive. So, in my perspective, it is actually a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing why businesses emphasize new products and offering a clear perspective on whether this is a positive or negative development. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, which keeps the response at this level. For instance, the reasons provided for why companies highlight novelty are rather repetitive and rely on general statements rather than specific examples. While the second body paragraph acknowledges the negative aspects, such as consumer confusion and false advertising, these points are not fully extended. To reach a higher standard, the writer would need to provide deeper explanations and concrete examples to support both sides of the argument, ensuring every part of the prompt is explored with greater depth and thoroughness.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a discernible organizational structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs discussing both sides, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression lacks a smooth flow, and the relationships between ideas are sometimes mechanical. Cohesive devices are used, but they are occasionally repetitive or basic, such as 'Besides' and 'In conclusion we can say that'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical links within paragraphs need tighter control to guide the reader seamlessly. For example, the transition from discussing market competitiveness in the second paragraph to the negative sides in the third paragraph feels abrupt rather than naturally flowing. Improving the variety and precision of transitional phrases, as well as ensuring clearer referencing throughout the text, would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to express basic points, but it lacks precision and flexibility. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling that occasionally catch the reader's attention, such as 'competetive' instead of competitive, 'markting' instead of marketing, and 'inappropiately' instead of inappropriately. Furthermore, phrases like 'end up being a complete bluff' are somewhat informal for an academic essay. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, but these attempts are constrained by inaccuracies. To move up, the writer should focus on expanding their range of academic vocabulary, ensuring correct spelling, and selecting more natural collocations to convey ideas with greater precision and style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple forms alongside a few attempts at complex sentences. These attempts at complex structures are often accompanied by errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions and awkward phrasing like 'In the result of that' instead of 'As a result'. There are frequent errors in prepositions, plurals, and subject-verb agreement throughout the essay, including 'this advertisings' and 'loose trust'. Although these errors rarely impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical control. To improve, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures accurately and pay closer attention to basic sentence mechanics, articles, and prepositions.
