Student answer (Band 5.5)

People hold differing views regarding advertisement of new products. While some argue that it makes constant competition forces companies to continously innovate & improve product quality. I believe that it promotes consumerism, leading to financial strain & excessive environmental waste.

On the one hand, there are valid arguements for why the first arguement is supported. The main arguement is that people want new enhance technology. Individuals wants competition on these things so they can explore new products & new technology. Due to this citizen will get job employment also. It leads to advancements in technology, safety and convenience for consumers over time. For instance, Electric vehicle manufactures continually updating battery technology, resulting in faster charging times & longer range. Additionally, people love to explore this kinds of technology.

On the other hand, I side with those who believe that most new features are superficial minor updates rather than genuine innovations. The primary reason is that in this time period individuals are very cleaver & sharp minded. That's why nowadays, individuals do some research in new innovations and compare it with it's old one's if the new innovation is too enhanced than it's old ones then only they think to purchase about it because of financial strain & excessive environmental waste. A clear example of this is tech brands releasing annual phone models with only slight camera upgrades, forcing citizen to throw away functional devices. Therefore, it directly impacts in their financial circumstances because if individuals functional devices are running well but also they get influenced by the new product to purchase it.

In conclusion, although there are strong arguements on both sides, I am of the opinion that individuals should check new innovation well and compare it with old one's. If it is valid & they are getting more facilities then only they have to purchase it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the two-part prompt by discussing why businesses emphasize new products and offering an opinion on whether this development is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas remains limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the introduction contains a fragmented opening sentence ('While some argue that it makes constant competition forces companies...'), and the arguments regarding technological advancement and consumerism are partially under-developed with generalized reasoning. While a clear position is presented throughout the essay, the supporting points lack the depth and extension required for a higher band, relying instead on broad assertions about people wanting enhanced technology and being clever-minded.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilized, and basic cohesive devices are present, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'why the first arguement is supported' and 'compare it with it's old one's'. The progression of ideas lacks complete clarity due to repetitive phrasing and occasional abrupt transitions between sentences, keeping the organizational flow at an intermediate level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items such as 'consumerism', 'superficial', 'genuine innovations', and 'circumstances'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'arguements' instead of arguments, 'continously' instead of continuously, 'cleaver' instead of clever, and the incorrect use of apostrophes in 'old one's'. While communication is generally maintained despite these errors, the frequent inaccuracies in word form and spelling prevent the response from achieving a higher lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple forms alongside attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are recurrent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Individuals wants competition'), missing articles, awkward relative clauses, and incorrect prepositional patterns ('purchase about it'). Furthermore, punctuation is sometimes inaccurate, such as the missing main clause in the introductory sentence fragment. These frequent errors in grammar and structure cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over more complex grammatical patterns.
