Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, many companies clam that their product are new or improved in their advertising. From my percepetive, overall it is a neative impact in development.

There are main reasen why companies launched new products, its amarketing techniquesto attract customrs. People are often bored with old products and want to try something modern. For example, mobile compaines like I-phone and Samsung they introduce update model of phone everyear with new feautre to tempet the consumer to buy it. Secondly it helps busniess to compete with other companies. If companies says its new, it look more innvoative than its competitors. This increase sales and profits.

I belive this trend is negative for both consumer and enviorment. For consumer it creates unnecessary pressue to buy it and they don,t need it.Many people waste their money on phones and clothes reason is advertising makes them feel their old producte are outdated. Furthermore ,this development adverse for enviorment, When people throw away old productesto buy modern ones, it creates more waste and pollution.Foe intance, people changes their electronic every year. Companies only focus on advertising than actually improving quailty.

In conclusion, business highlight that their product are new to attract buyers and stay competitive. Although it may bring some benfits to the economy ,I thinkit is a negative developments because it encourage consumer and harmful for enviorment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both why businesses emphasise new products and providing a clear position that this is a negative development. However, the length requirement is NOT met, as the essay contains 221 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. While the ideas are relevant, some parts of the response are under-developed. For instance, the discussion on why companies use this marketing strategy to stay competitive lacks fully extended supporting examples. The reasoning regarding environmental impacts is touched upon with the example of electronic waste, but it could be expanded further to achieve a fully developed argument. The position remains clear throughout the essay, but the lack of sufficient length and some under-developed supporting points place this criterion at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, moving logically from an introduction to reasons, impacts, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate the two main parts of the prompt. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. For example, cohesive devices like "Secondly" and "Furthermore" are used, but transitions between sentences can feel abrupt, and pronouns such as "it" in phrases like "its amarketing techniquesto" lack clear, precise antecedents. Additionally, the progression of ideas within paragraphs occasionally stumbles due to missing links between general statements and specific examples. This demonstrates the full qualities of the lower band while showing partial progression toward the higher band's more flexible management of cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about marketing and environmental impact. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, such as "clam" instead of claim, "percepetive" instead of perspective, "neative" instead of negative, "reesen" instead of reason, "compaines" instead of companies, "tempet" instead of tempt, "busniess" instead of business, "innvoative" instead of innovative, "enviorment" instead of environment, "pressue" instead of pressure, "producte" instead of products, and "quailty" instead of quality. These inaccuracies and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range that prevents higher-level precision and stylistic control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer employs a limited range of structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of grammatical and structural issues include missing articles ("in development", "for enviorment"), incorrect verb agreements ("companies says its new"), punctuation and spacing errors ("companies like I-phone and Samsung they introduce", "don,t"), and missing prepositions or incorrect clause structures ("this development adverse for enviorment", "I thinkit"). These frequent errors in sentence structure and punctuation indicate that control over complex structures is not yet consistent, placing this aspect of writing firmly at the designated level.
