Student answer (Band 6.5)
During the last decade, marketing has gradually increased its importance and companies are trying to attract prospects in various ways. In today's world the emphasis of advertisement is on new features available to the customer. The main reason for that belongs to the fact that people are attracted by everything presented as something new. I believe this development has a positive effect on the community as a whole, indeed it lets humanity advance in the field of techonology.
Many companies focus their advertisements on the advanced features they offer in order to convert more prospects into clients. In fact, many people are genuinly interested in innovative products and are attracted probably by the sense of belonging to something new or the feel of being beyond times. Consequently, this kind of adverstisement increases the awareness of the brand among people.
Nevertheless, emphasising on newness is not only related to the adverts, but also to the products themselves. If companies focus the attention of the consumers on their innovative products it means that they have actually produced something new. This can allow humanity to advance in many field, such as in that of technology. For example, nowadays computers and smartphones play an important role in people's everyday lives and in a certain way have made life easier. Indeed, new techonolgies have enabled remote working, which allows many employee to gain the hours they previously wasted commuting to work.
In conclusion, I believe the mains reasons why businesses focus on new products are related to reaching more customers. However, this approch to marketing can also have a positive influence on people's lives, especially if companies focus more in research and development. For instance, this approach has already reduced the amount of time many people used to spend in traffic.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons behind businesses emphasising new products and providing a clear position that this is a positive development. Ideas are generally relevant, such as consumer attraction to novelty and technological advancement like remote working, which shows elements of the higher band. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of why people are attracted to novelty is somewhat brief and relies on general statements like 'the feel of being beyond times' rather than deeper elaboration. Furthermore, the final paragraph reiterates points rather than extending them significantly. To reach a higher band, the student needs to fully develop all arguments with richer supporting evidence and more thorough exploration.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction through body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices are employed adequately to connect sentences and ideas, such as 'Consequently', 'Nevertheless', and 'In fact'. However, some elements of cohesion are a bit mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally less clear than it could be, such as the transition into the discussion of technology. To achieve a higher band, the student should ensure that cohesive ties are smoother and less formulaic, creating a more seamless flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'prospects', 'innovative', 'brand awareness', and 'research and development'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'techonology' instead of 'technology', 'genuinly' instead of 'genuinely', 'adverstisement' instead of 'advertisement', and 'approch' instead of 'approach'. Additionally, some collocations or phrases feel slightly awkward, such as 'the feel of being beyond times'. These lexical errors and slips do not impede communication, placing the response securely in the mid-range. To improve, the writer needs to expand their range of less common vocabulary while eliminating basic spelling and word-form inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional clauses ('If companies focus...') and relative clauses ('...smartphones play an important role in people's everyday lives...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including article misuse ('in many field' instead of 'in many fields'), pluralisation ('many employee' instead of 'many employees'), and prepositional patterns ('emphasising on new products' instead of 'emphasising new products'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To move towards a higher band, the student must increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise greater control over grammatical agreements and prepositions.
