Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt regarding why businesses emphasise new products and whether this is positive or negative. The position is evident throughout, particularly in stating that advertising and product novelty provide mutual benefits for companies and consumers. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, while the point about BMW is introduced, the explanation relies on broad generalisations rather than fully extended arguments. To reach the next level, the ideas would need more thorough elaboration with deeper analysis, moving beyond basic examples to fully developed supporting points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, such as the benefits to companies versus the benefits to consumers. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in transitions like 'Therefore' and 'Thus' which do not always logically link the preceding clauses smoothly. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as pronoun use referring back to general concepts. Improving the flexibility and accuracy of cohesive devices would elevate this aspect of the writing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable lexical errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'avertisment' instead of 'advertisement', 'salles' instead of 'sales', 'virable' instead of 'viable', 'coustomers', 'cheack', 'appeare', 'consistelty', 'comapnies', 'approperiate', 'chioce', and 'altough'. These errors reflect an insufficient command of spelling and word choice, occasionally causing some difficulty for the reader. Incorporating a wider range of less common lexical items with greater precision and accurate spelling is necessary for further progress.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader, including comma splices and run-on sentences like 'single product can be manufacture by many companies, this why become very popular that these businesses try to use virable methods'. Other errors involve verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and missing articles, such as 'advertising provide', 'when persons want', and 'individuals will able'. Achieving better control over sentence boundaries and grammatical accuracy is essential for improvement.
