Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, businesses emphaisise their products are new in some way in their advertising. It has both positive and negative impacts. In my opinion, it is a positive development.

From the begining of 21st century society has gone through several changes which has made people to look for new things and make life more comfortable. This change has made business minds to find out new ways to attract consumers. They are trying to improve their products everyday due to competition to hold the market as long as possible. This has made their advertising policy to emphasis more on the new things they are offering to attract individuals to try their products. In this way, sometimes they are able to gain popularity among consumers. This has made companies to look for less detrimental ingredients to use sothat they could stay longer in market. Foe example, Apple has just launched their Apple Due which has several new features for cameras and reading. Despite Sumsung having folding phones for last couple of years, individuals are buying Apple Due because it has several new functions. I would say their consumers trusted their advertising and decided to give it a shot.

In the other hand, it has some drawbacks too. Some businesses are falsifying their products being new to attract consumers. Some products carrying hazardous after effects are labelled as new and sent to the market. This is the result of emphasising being new as the ultimate goal. In this case the advertising is playing the negative role and encouraging people to use products that are not new or hazardous. In case of point, several toothpaste companies has beed fined for their falsified reports about their products not carrying microplastic.

In conclusion, I think showing products as being new in advertising may have some negative development but its positive impact outweighs them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing why businesses emphasize that their products are new and giving an opinion on whether this is a positive or negative development. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the positive side is explored with the example of Apple, but the negative side and the example regarding toothpaste companies are somewhat limited and lack depth. The position is clear throughout the essay, but further extension and support for all arguments would be required to reach a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the essay is divided into logical paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in transition phrases like 'In the other hand' instead of 'On the other hand'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. While paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main ideas, the management of cohesive devices lacks the flexibility and precise control needed for a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts some less common items such as 'detrimental', 'falsifying', and 'microplastic'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('emphaisise', 'begining', 'sothat', 'Foe example', 'Sumsung', 'beed') and occasional word-choice issues like 'business minds' and 'carrying hazardous after effects'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a level of vocabulary control where precision and accuracy are still developing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'This change has made business minds to find out new ways...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including issues with infinitive structures ('made people to look'), prepositions, and plurals ('companies has beed'), but these errors rarely impede communication. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and mastering more varied and error-free sentence patterns is necessary for further improvement.
