Student answer (Band 5.5)

Advertisement can bring up many different companies. The products are showed in new and in different way through advertisement. I think so it have both benefits and draw backs but it merits are much more then its demerits which I explain in paragraphs bellow.

To begin with, the advertisement is beneficial for new companies to grow by showing their products to customers. For example companies which are new in the market has no sale with their good products are grow by advertising their products. In addition, it helps to increase the competition in the market. Which is beneficial for consumers because the companies try to manufact the products which are best in the market. Also, it decrease the prices of different products which is directly beneficial for poor people. Furthermore, the advertisement helps in another way like people can see different products online and through different adds and compares different products. They can decide to purchase the product without visiting shops.

In contrast, some times the products are not showing same specifications in advertisement like the original product. Secondly, some people buy a products just by seeing it on adds but after purchasing it the quality of product did not lies on the price. Moreover, the companies spend a large amount of money just on advertisement than spending it on the products to improve its quality. With the time the race of advertising the products are increased.

To put it in a nutshell, the companies are showing their products in different to attract the consumers. But I would say that the government may have restrictions on companies to just show the real qualities and spending money on product rather than on adds.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing why businesses emphasise new products and offering an opinion on whether this is a positive or negative development. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, keeping the content at a partial level. For instance, while you mention that advertisements help new companies grow and increase market competition, these points are stated simply without being fully extended or supported with convincing elaboration. Similarly, the counter-arguments regarding misleading specifications and advertising costs are introduced but not thoroughly explored. Your position is generally clear throughout the essay, but the lack of deeper extension and specific real-world examples prevents the response from achieving a more developed level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs representing different viewpoints, and a conclusion. There is a logical flow from discussing the benefits of advertising to presenting the drawbacks and concluding with a personal stance. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear, such as using 'Which is beneficial' as a sentence fragment or relying on repetitive transitional markers like 'In addition', 'Also', and 'Furthermore'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate ideas, but smoother transitions between sentences and clearer inter-sentential connections would elevate the overall organization of the writing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'specifications', 'draw backs', and 'consumer', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation that may cause some difficulty for the reader. For example, phrases like 'the products are showed', 'has no sale with their good products', and 'the quality of product did not lies on the price' reveal inaccuracies in word formation and prepositional collocations. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical control lacks precision, and the reliance on basic or incorrectly adapted vocabulary restricts the range of expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader, including issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and clause structure. Examples of these errors include 'Advertisement can bring up', 'I think so it have both benefits', 'companies which are new in the market has no sale', and 'the companies spend a large amount of money just on advertisement than spending it'. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with sentence fragments like starting a new sentence with 'Which is beneficial'. Greater control over basic sentence patterns and accurate verb forms is necessary.
