Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, many business emphasize that their products are new or improved when their are advertise them. This is mainely because people are attracted to new things and companies want to increase their sales. In my opinion, this is a largely positive development, altrough it can sometimes have nagative effects.

There are several reasons why companies focus on the newness of their products. First, customers usually want to try a new and improved products. Foe example, when a new smartphone is launched with a bbetter camera or fastest processor, many people become intrusted in buying it. Second, advertising a product as new helps companies compete with other bussiness. It can make their products appere more modern and attractive than the other.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify two relevant reasons for the advertising trend—customers’ interest in new products and competition between businesses—and state a clear view that it is “largely positive.” However, the response addresses the task only partially: the positive side is not explained, and there is no discussion of possible negative effects despite acknowledging them in the introduction. The examples about a smartphone’s camera and processor are relevant but brief, with little explanation of their consequences. The response also stops mid-sentence at “I belive this trend,” leaving your evaluation unfinished. The required minimum of 250 words is not met. Develop both parts of the question, explain your position with specific reasoning, and complete the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph giving reasons, and the beginning of a further paragraph. Sequencing is generally understandable, and “First” and “Second” help distinguish the two reasons. However, the essay ends abruptly at “I belive this trend,” so the overall progression and conclusion are missing. Connections between ideas are also basic: the smartphone example is introduced, but its link to the broader claim about sales is not fully explained. To improve, plan a complete sequence of paragraphs—reasons, evaluation, and conclusion—and use clear references and transitions to show how each example supports your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “advertising,” “launched,” “processor,” “compete,” and “attractive,” which makes the main subject clear. However, the range is limited, and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less fluent, such as “mainely,” “intrusted,” “bussiness,” and “appere.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise, including “a new and improved products” and “advertising a product as new.” Aim to use more precise language for the effects of advertising, such as consumer demand, product appeal, or market competition, while checking spelling and collocations carefully. This would make your ideas easier to follow and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a reason-and-result structure in “This is mainly because people are attracted to new things and companies want to increase their sales.” Most sentences remain understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “many business emphasize” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “when their are advertise them” has an incorrect pronoun and verb construction. In “customers usually want to try a new and improved products,” the article and plural noun do not agree. The final fragment, “I belive this trend,” is incomplete. Practise accurate agreement, articles and plural forms, and check that every sentence has a complete clause. Building a few reliable complex sentences will also help express your reasoning.
