Student answer (Band 6.5)

In contemporary society, advertising often underscores the novelty of products in their promotional campaigns. This is mainly because companies need to compete with each other for consimer's attention. I firmly believe it is an advantageous trend because it helps customers make better-informed decisions and encourages businesses to be more innovative.

To begin with, the primary cause of this trend is that advertising plays a pivotale role in modern commerce, effectively showcasing various products and influencing customer attention. Numerous customers make purchases based on the information given through advertisements thus contributing to the economic growth. For example, a car company may emphasize on a new safety feature in which its vehicle can compete with other cars. Moreover, companies use diverse platforms like social media to promote their latest offerigs thus creating substantial attraction.

In contrast, critics argue over emphasis on product novelty in advertising yoelds negative response.Advertisers often prioritize the sale of products and brand establishment which leads to customer dissatisfaction. For instance, loyal customers may find it disappointing when their favourite brand introduces nee substandard products therefore damaging brand loyalty. Furthermore, children are more attracted towards advertisments which can put a financial stress on parents and incite emotional distress in children when they are unable to acquire the showcased products.

In conclusion, despite the drawbacks on product novelty in advertising I firmly believe its advantages outweigh its disadvantages and it brings positive outcomes by enhancing consumer awareness and enjoyment. Additionally,it informs consumers about improved products and services while also adding a touch of amusement to their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response addresses both parts of the prompt: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to compete for consumers’ attention, and you clearly support the view that this is positive overall. The points about informing customers and encouraging innovation are relevant, while the discussion of brand disappointment and pressure on parents shows awareness of drawbacks. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the car-safety feature illustrates product novelty, but you could clarify how this helps consumers compare options or make safer choices. The point about children and emotional distress is also introduced briefly without showing how it relates to the overall judgement. Developing these examples and linking them more explicitly to your position would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the main arguments and drawbacks, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. The contrast paragraph is relevant, although “In contrast” does not clearly signal that you are presenting an opposing view before reaffirming your own position. Some connections between ideas are also compressed: the move from advertising to economic growth, for instance, needs a clearer explanation. In the conclusion, “Additionally” introduces another point rather than smoothly summarising the argument. Use linking expressions more precisely and make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “novelty,” “promotional campaigns,” “brand loyalty,” and “consumer awareness.” These choices show an effort to use more formal and topic-specific language. Some less common expressions are not used accurately or naturally, however: “pivotale role” appears to be a misspelling, “emphasize on” has an unsuitable collocation, and “substantial attraction” is unclear in this context. There are also spelling errors such as “consimer’s,” “offerigs,” and “advertisments,” which detract from the otherwise understandable message. Aim for precise, natural collocations and proofread carefully; this will help you use your broader vocabulary with greater control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “when.” Most of the argument remains understandable, and the sentence beginning “Furthermore, children are more attracted…” shows an attempt to develop a more complex point. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “Numerous customers make purchases based on the information given through advertisements thus contributing…” needs clearer punctuation or a revised clause structure. In “a car company may emphasize on a new safety feature in which its vehicle can compete,” the clause structure is difficult to follow. Missing spaces after commas and full stops also affect punctuation. Review sentence boundaries and clause connections to make complex sentences clearer and more consistently accurate.
