Student answer (Band 5.5)
Over the time, companies and industries are trying to invent or produce new products and gadgets. Never the less they try to compete each other and are always in a race of producing and creating different and unique products. Because people usually prefer to purchase new things rather than going for old and existing ones.
These days, whenever we see any advertisement, we notice that they claim their product contains new features and is different from existing products. This is one of the business and marketing strategies to persuade people for buying their products. This is a positive development. Because people generally compare features of existing and new product before buying.
Companies always try to make changes in the existing product to make it more advanced. For instance, earlier there were plastic water filters or purifiers which has not advanced to copper material, as copper have more beneficial mechanism than plastic. People are running business and making it successful by using the advanced technology. For instance, earlier there were ceiling fans which require switch buttons to operate, but with time it gets advanced to automatic fans which can be operate through remote. So, it is essential to produce advanced products to run successful businesses.
In conclusion, Businesses in advertisements, who claim that their products are new and better from existing products are trying to persuade people to buy their products. This is one of the essential requirement of businesses to produce new products to run and make their business succesful with time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to attract buyers and compete, and you state that this is positive. The examples of water purifiers and remote-controlled fans help illustrate product development. However, the explanation of why consumers respond to novelty is brief, and the positive judgement is asserted more than examined. The purifier example is also unclear about what changed and why copper is better, so its support is limited. To strengthen the response, explain the benefits of innovation more fully—for example, improved convenience, safety, or efficiency—and acknowledge a possible drawback, such as encouraging unnecessary purchases, before reaffirming your view. This would make your position and supporting ideas more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to reasons and examples, then a conclusion. Paragraphing helps separate the main points, and phrases such as “For instance” signal examples. However, progression between ideas is sometimes unclear: the opening moves quickly from competition to consumer preference, while the second paragraph repeats the advertising point without developing the argument much further. Some links are mechanical, and the conclusion largely restates the introduction rather than drawing the examples together. Improve the flow by giving each body paragraph one clear purpose, using explicit links between the reason and its example, and varying transitions. Also ensure references such as “they” clearly identify whether they mean companies or advertisements.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “advertisement,” “marketing strategies,” “advanced technology,” and “features,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “new products,” “existing products,” and “make it successful.” There are also noticeable collocation and word-form problems, including “compete each other,” “persuade people for buying,” and “beneficial mechanism.” These choices make some ideas less natural and precise. Build a wider set of topic-specific expressions and check how verbs combine with prepositions. For example, use “compete with one another,” “persuade consumers to buy,” and “offer greater benefits” to express the same ideas more idiomatically.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including clauses introduced by “Because” and “which,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “which has not advanced” does not agree with the plural “filters or purifiers,” and “fans which require switch buttons” shifts awkwardly from past to present. The sentence beginning “This is a positive development. Because…” is also incorrectly divided, leaving a dependent clause as a fragment. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and main verb, and check agreement and tense consistency. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your meaning easier to follow.
