Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the contemporary society, many companies emphasise their new feature products in the advertisement and somehow it plays a paramount of importance to attract customers and increase their sales as well as profits. I believe that, advertisement having a double-edged sword because it helps consumer to learn about innovations, it also encourage unnecessary spending.

To commence with, promotion of new launch items can be beneficial for both business and customers as brand introduce their catalouges to compete with other competitor brands and to attract more buyers whereas customers uses this to compare different products attributes, pricing and other things as per usage and choice. Furthermore, advertisements helps people to learn about improved technology and useful features. For instance smartphones companies regularly changes quality of cameras ang longer battery life, which can be helpful for people who need these improvement also, facilitate customers to make better purchasing decisions.

On the flip side, this trend may have some demerits when business strategies only focus more on attracting customers instead of providing quality product with better specifications. However, some individuals are easily influenced by Ads leading to purchase new products even their existing one work properly. Epitome, some top-notch brands like Apple Iphones exaggerate the benefits of their products which includes colour shades and positiong of camera lens just to increase profits and marketing growth.

In the conclusion, although advertising help customers to discover useful innovations, it can also spends money on unwanted things. I consider this approach is benefits only when companies initiate genuine improvements and advertise products wit honesty.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses promote novelty to attract buyers and increase profits, and you give a balanced view, concluding that the trend is positive when improvements are genuine but harmful when it encourages unnecessary purchases. The smartphone example supports the benefits, while the Apple example illustrates your concern about marketing emphasis. This meets the task well, and your position is clear. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the reasons businesses stress newness could be explained more directly, and the claim about Apple’s camera positioning would benefit from a clearer explanation of how this influences consumers. Developing these points with specific cause-and-effect reasoning would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a contrasting paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from “To commence with” to “On the flip side” makes the shift in viewpoint easy to follow, and the conclusion returns to your balanced position. You also use examples in the relevant paragraphs. At times, however, connections within sentences are less clear, particularly in the opening, where the relationship between the two clauses is awkward, and in the first body paragraph, where several points are joined into one long sentence. Use clearer sentence boundaries and make references such as “this trend” or “these improvements” unmistakably specific. This would make the organisation feel more consistently controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “innovations,” “purchasing decisions,” “unnecessary spending,” and “genuine improvements.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt more formal expressions such as “paramount” and “double-edged sword.” Some less common wording is inaccurate or unnatural, however: “a paramount of importance,” “brand introduce their catalouges,” and “Epitome” do not express the intended meanings clearly. There are also spelling errors, including “catalouges” and “positiong,” and some imprecise phrases such as “marketing growth.” Aim for natural collocations and check spelling; precise, familiar wording is more effective than ambitious vocabulary used inaccurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrastive structure beginning “although” and a conditional idea in the final sentence. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “advertisement having a double-edged sword” lacks a finite verb, while “it also encourage” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “customers uses,” the plural subject also requires a plural verb, and “advertisements helps” has the same agreement problem. Review articles, verb forms, and agreement, and divide long sentences where necessary. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts clearer and more reliable.
