Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's modern time, businesses usually place more importance on showing how their product is advanced in advertisements. I believe this is a positive development.

On the one hand, advertisement is so significant for businesses nowadays, so that they can introduce their product to the market for customers. Advertising plays a very crucial role in this by telling all about the product advantages, how to use, prices and what's new with the product. Through advertising, products can reach a large mass audience, and people can also connect with the product or business.

On the other hand, there is competition in the market where other businesses with the same product are available in the market, some are available in the cheaper prices also. This is why businesses place importance on telling why their product is different from others and new in some way, which can justify the prices and bring more customers.

In my opinion, it is a positive development both for the businesses and customers. By stating clearly how their product is new in some way, they can definetly bring new and large amount of customers, which is benefiting the businesses. However, still with so many options in the market with different price range, it can be confusing for the cutomer to find a suitable product for themselves this is where the advertising product in some new way comes and helps the customer to choose what is best for them. For example- apple launches new i-phone model every year still they don't loose their customers becuase they tell each and every time how their new model is different from the old version. Hence this is a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response addresses both questions: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to stand out from competitors and justify prices, and you clearly state that you see this as positive for businesses and customers. The comparison with cheaper alternatives and the iPhone example make the reasoning relevant, and your position is consistent. The explanation of customer benefits is less fully developed, however: saying advertising helps people choose does not show how claims of novelty reliably help them, or acknowledge that such claims may be exaggerated. The opening also focuses on advertising’s general importance rather than directly explaining the emphasis on newness. To strengthen the response, develop the reasons more evenly and support your positive view with a specific explanation of how genuine innovation benefits consumers while recognising a possible limitation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two paragraphs developing the reasons and your view, and a concluding statement. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “Hence” make the main stages easy to follow. However, the first body paragraph discusses advertising generally, while the second shifts to competition and then to your opinion, so the progression between the task’s two questions could be more deliberate. Some connections are also awkward or unclear, particularly the long sentence beginning “However, still with so many options,” where the relationship between choice, advertising, and suitability is difficult to track. Use separate paragraphs for the reasons and your evaluation, and make references such as “this” explicit to improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “competition,” “customers,” “prices,” and “different from others.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “large mass audience” and “justify the prices,” although the former is unnatural and the latter needs a clearer context. Repetition of “product,” “market,” and “new in some way” limits flexibility, while spelling errors such as “definetly,” “cutomer,” “loose,” and “becuase” are noticeable. Some word combinations are also imprecise, including “advertising product in some new way.” Build a wider set of accurate expressions for innovation and consumer choice, and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, using structures such as “so that they can introduce their product” and “where other businesses with the same product are available.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. For example, “how to use” lacks a clear subject, and “this is where the advertising product … comes and helps” joins clauses awkwardly. The sentence beginning “However, still with so many options” also needs clearer clause boundaries, while “a large amount of customers” has a number agreement problem. Review articles, countable and uncountable nouns, and sentence boundaries; breaking long sentences into shorter, complete clauses will improve accuracy without sacrificing structural variety.
