Student answer (Band 5.5)

In modern society, advertisement of new products are being very common for all companies. It is the best way to introduce customers with new improved products. In this essay, I will discuss both positive and negative aspects of increasing advertisements in present to boost sales of new products.

To commence with, there are large number of advantages of these advertisements about new launched products. One of the key benefits of advertisement is that it is a great way to make new products familiar with customers. Moreover, it encourages innovation and research. Companies provide better products to people to increase sale of their new product. Additionally, another advantage is that it is easier for people to buy and trust on products. For instance, the advertisement of new medicines and makeup products are making people more aware about their health and skin care.

On the other hand, there are some drawbacks of these advertisements. One significant drawback is that it forces people to spend more money on unnecessary items or products. Furthermore, unwanted advertisements create amount of challenges for individuals and society. For instance, big companies, such as Apple, Samsung, and Sony launch a new phone every year with small changes, but people buy those phones just to try new features and showing off to others.

In conclusion, this essay has both advantages and notable disadvantages which should be considered. Moving forward, it is important to optimize the benefits of advertisement of new products to ensure positive outcomes for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons businesses promote newness, including introducing products to customers and encouraging innovation, and presents both benefits and drawbacks. However, the task asks for a clear judgement on whether this is a positive or negative development, and the conclusion avoids choosing a side, saying only that both advantages and disadvantages should be considered. Several points are also under-developed: the claim that advertising makes people “trust on products” is not explained, and the medicine and makeup example does not clearly show how advertising’s emphasis on newness benefits consumers. The phone example is more relevant, but could be linked more explicitly to your overall view. The response is also two words below the required minimum. State a definite position and develop the reasons with clearer explanation and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the progression, and the phone example is placed appropriately in the drawbacks paragraph. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the stronger control associated with more flexible cohesion. However, the linking can feel formulaic, particularly the repeated listing of points with “Moreover” and “Additionally.” The conclusion also does not resolve the discussion with a clear position, weakening the sense of progression from the body paragraphs. Use links that show the relationship between ideas, and make the final paragraph directly answer the question.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “innovation,” “research,” “unnecessary items,” and “new features.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and the examples of medicines, makeup, and phones give the discussion relevant topic language. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “significant drawback.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “advertisement of new products,” “new launched products,” “trust on products,” and “create amount of challenges” reduce precision. “Boost sales” is relevant, but the essay could use more exact language to distinguish advertising from the products themselves. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and checking whether a noun or verb fits the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “Companies provide better products to people to increase sale of their new product” and the contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” Most sentences remain understandable, so grammatical errors do not generally prevent communication. Some errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction are present. For example, “advertisement … are being very common” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “there are large number” needs an article and “the advertisement … are making” has a mismatch between singular subject and verb. The final sentence also uses an awkward infinitive construction. Review agreement and article use, and practise varying sentence patterns while keeping each clause grammatically complete.
