Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this fast-paced world, technology is bringing tremendous change in the life of people as well as the products they are consuming. Besides this, businesses are trying to showcase their products are new and innovative in numerous ways. There are various reasons for this cause and I firmly contend that it has a positive impact as compared to negative development.
To commence with the reasons for emphasizing the products as new. Businesses try to demonstrate their product has more advanced features as compared to the current product in the market. For instance, mobile companies try to bring different types of mobile phones at similar price ranges so that they can withstand in a competitive market. Besides this, they try to offers different features such as high resolution camera or high performance smartphones and many more. They try to do advertisements which leads to attract customers and to fulfill their requirement according to their plans.
This type of thought process in a business leads to a positive impact on a market. Such as, it creates more competition between various companies who are manufacturing similar products. This leads to innovation and makes customers to have better options rather than only relying on a single brand or choice of product. To elaborate, various laptop companies offer different types of laptops, having different specifications at a different price ranges. Because of having a choice, consumers can select one which can be best suited for there budget, need of purchase, quality and services provided by a company. Therefore, it is helpful to the customer.
In conclusion, businesses should try to showcase their products as new in some way so that people can be attracted by that product and get better options while purchasing. Hence, in my opinion it brings positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain that businesses highlight new features to compete and attract customers, and you clearly state that you see this as positive. The mobile-phone example supports the reason, while the laptop example illustrates consumer choice and affordability. This gives the response a relevant, consistent argument. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the link between advertising and meeting customers’ requirements is not made specific, and the benefits of competition are discussed more fully than why businesses emphasise novelty. To strengthen the response, explain how presenting a product as new helps a company stand out or increase sales, and develop the positive effects with a concrete consequence or example. The position is clear, but the ideas are not yet consistently extended and supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining businesses’ motives, a paragraph supporting your positive view, and a conclusion. The progression from competition to consumer choice is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Besides this,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, these links feel mechanical or do not connect the sentence smoothly. The opening fragment “To commence with the reasons…” does not form a complete transition, and “This type of thought process” has an unclear reference. Some ideas also repeat the point that customers have options. Use more precise links between cause and effect, and make references explicit—for example, name the business practice or outcome rather than relying on “this.”
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “advanced features,” “competitive market,” “innovation,” “specifications,” and “consumers.” These terms help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “emphasizing” and “positive development.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “showcase their products as new” is less natural than “promote their products as new,” and “withstand in a competitive market” does not express the intended idea idiomatically. “Different” and “product” recur often, limiting flexibility. Aim for more precise expressions such as “differentiate their products,” “market advantage,” and “consumer demand,” while checking that each phrase fits its context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “so that,” “which,” and “because.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the overall argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless occur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “they try to offers” should use the base form after “try to,” while “makes customers to have” needs a different verb pattern. “There are various reasons for this cause” is also awkwardly constructed, and “at a different price ranges” has a number-agreement problem. The opening sentence “To commence with the reasons…” is a fragment. Review verb patterns and singular/plural agreement, and check that each sentence has a complete main clause. More accurate control of these structures would make your varied sentences clearer.
