Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, advertising has become an essential part of modern society. It is often argued that businesses nowadays usually emphasise that their products are new in some way when advertising. I believe that it is both positive and negative development because its beneficial for businesses but not for society.
One the hand, advertising can have a significant impact on people’s life as most of the people believes on the advertising and its beneficial for the businesses as they are trying to do the best for increasing their sales and tries to influence the people by making attractive advertisements. Their goal is their profit maximisation and they ignores social welfare .
On the other hand, its an negative development for society as they does not have enough knowledge of the product and purchase it on the basis of the smart advertising and not able to make difference between the best and the worst . Businesses are serving the same thing like others but because of their advertising they have an edge form others.
In conclusion, advertising can be positive and negative development for both society and businesses just the difference is society does not have enough awareness about the products they are buying and blindly trust on the advertisements. however, businesses gets profit from that

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You give a clear overall view that the trend has both positive and negative effects, and you identify business profit and consumers’ limited product knowledge as relevant points. However, the task asks why companies emphasise novelty, and this reason is not explained clearly: the response mentions increasing sales and influencing people but does not develop why presenting products as new achieves this. The positive and negative sides are also asserted rather than supported with specific examples or explanation, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction. The response contains 201 words, below the required 250; this limits the space available to address both questions fully. Develop each main idea with a clear explanation and a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “One the hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. These markers help readers identify the intended contrast. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited: several points about advertising, profit and consumer awareness are joined together without a clear sequence or supporting detail. The conclusion repeats the same contrast rather than drawing the discussion together. Some linking and reference are also unclear, particularly “they” in the second paragraph, which could refer to consumers or businesses. To improve, give each paragraph one central point, explain it in a logical order, and use pronouns only when their reference is unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “advertising,” “profit maximisation,” “social welfare,” and “influence,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, especially “businesses,” “society,” and “advertising.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “believes on the advertising,” “an edge form others,” and “make difference between the best and the worst.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Aim to use more precise phrases for consumer behaviour and product promotion, and check common collocations. For example, “trust advertisements” and “gain an advantage over competitors” would express your ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a contrast between business benefits and consumer disadvantages. However, errors occur frequently and sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “One the hand” and “its an negative development,” as well as agreement errors such as “most of the people believes” and “businesses gets.” There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, for instance in “both positive and negative development” and the final “however” after a full stop. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation, then build longer sentences around one clear main clause. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your argument easier to understand.
