Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You answer both parts of the question: you explain that businesses highlight new features to attract customers and increase sales, and you clearly state that you see this as positive for both companies and consumers. The examples about a new phone and improved cameras and battery life are relevant. However, the reasons and examples are brief, so the benefits are asserted more than fully explained; for instance, you could show how advertising helps consumers compare products or how innovation affects purchasing decisions. The response also falls short of the required 250 words, which limits the opportunity to develop your ideas. Expand each main point with explanation and a more specific example to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from why businesses advertise new features to the benefits for consumers is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Moreover” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the ideas within paragraphs are not always developed in a smooth sequence. The opening sentence of the first body paragraph repeats the reason already given in the introduction, while “For instance” and “As a result” introduce examples or outcomes without much elaboration. Develop each point before moving to the next, and use referencing and transitions more naturally rather than relying mainly on formulaic markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use adequate topic vocabulary, including “advertisements,” “advanced features,” “performance” and “battery life,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “mislead customers,” although the point is not developed. Spelling errors and imprecise word choices are noticeable and reduce control: examples include “paragaraphs,” “relevent,” “increace,” “teachnology,” “comanies” and “teir.” Some phrasing is repetitive, particularly “new features” and “products,” and “better quality items” is vague. Proofread carefully and build a wider set of accurate expressions for innovation, consumer choice and advertising claims; this would make the response more precise and less repetitive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You communicate your main ideas using mostly straightforward sentence patterns, and some longer sentences show an attempt to connect ideas, such as “As a result, people can compare different products and choose the ones that meet their needs.” However, grammatical control is uneven. In the introduction, “they believe they promoting” is missing a verb form, and “My preference is justified in upcoming paragraphs” is an awkwardly constructed sentence. There are also punctuation and capitalisation problems, including missing spaces after full stops and the lowercase “i” in the conclusion. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they limit accuracy and range. Practise forming complex sentences accurately and check verb patterns, sentence boundaries and capital letters during proofreading.
