Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays many businesses highlight their product to attract the coustomers, through advertisment bords and ads. This is beacause cousumer often take interest fo their product. However in my opinion there is no any positive imapact in the development because it incourges the unnecessary spending and lead to excessive cosumerism.

There are several reasons why companies are serious about theri new aspects. The firstly, coustomers are often attaract to the product that offers new technology , new scrren , better battery and other features. By presenting the new product to coustomers as they are new and inovative so these are better than old alternate ones. Secondly companys deals with highly competetive prices from their competators . For example the mobile manufacturing company lauch their new phone with new camera and best battery with low rates as oldest one and foreced the coustomers to buy the new one even their old phones are working properly.

I belive that this trend generally negative impact, beacause this can encourage the coustomers to buy irreleavant products that are even not need. Frequently advertisments make the coustomers feels degraded and outdated, in a result this can decrease the people wealth and it caused totally the waste of money. Furthermore this behaviour make the electronic waste.

in conclusion, businesses emphasise the new features of their products to attract customers, increase sales, and gain an advantage over competitors. Although innovation itself is beneficial, I consider this advertising trend largely negative because it can encourage wasteful spending and contribute to environmental problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses promote new features to attract customers and compete, and you clearly judge the trend as largely negative. The phone example supports your explanation of how new cameras and batteries can encourage replacement purchases even when older phones still work. Your points about unnecessary spending and electronic waste are relevant, but they are asserted rather than fully explained; for instance, you could show how frequent upgrades increase waste or why advertising makes consumers feel outdated. The conclusion restates your position effectively. To strengthen the response, develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or a specific example, especially the negative effects, so the ideas are more consistently supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph explaining companies’ motives, a paragraph giving your view, and a conclusion. The progression from attracting customers to competition, then to negative consequences, is generally understandable. However, links between ideas are sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, “The firstly” and “Secondly” are awkward signposts, while “in a result” does not clearly connect the preceding claim to its consequence. The second body paragraph also moves quickly from consumer pressure to wealth and electronic waste without explaining the links. Use fewer, more natural transitions and make each paragraph develop one central point in a clear sequence; this would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “new technology,” “competitors,” “outdated,” “consumerism,” and “electronic waste,” which helps communicate the main argument. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear, such as “coustomers,” “advertisment,” “irreleavant,” and “alternate ones.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “highlight their product” and “decrease the people wealth.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “promote new features,” “replacement purchases,” and “financial well-being” would help express your ideas clearly and avoid repeating general words like “new” and “product.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “Although innovation itself is beneficial” and a reason introduced by “because.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in sentence construction and agreement occur throughout. For example, “this can encourage the customers to buy” is followed by “this behaviour make,” where the subject and verb do not agree; “companys deals” also has an incorrect plural subject with a singular verb. The opening sentence and “By presenting the new product … so these are better” are incomplete or awkwardly joined. Practise building complete clauses, checking subject–verb agreement, and using punctuation to separate ideas; greater control would make your complex sentences clearer.
