Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many businesses promote their products by marketing and advertising at present. Among various companies, many claim that their products are more unique than the others. They perform such tactics in order to increase their sales and remain in the competitive market. In my opinion, this is a negetive development as this creates unnecessary demands and causes financial problems for consumers.

Nowadays many companies are indulged in various marketing and advertising campaigns in order to promote their products. Among them, many sell similar products such as various companies selling chocolates. Many businesses claim that their products are unique in order to provide them a competitive advantage. This is essential for their survival because it gives them an additional benefit over the other companies to attract more customers. By attracting a considerable number of customers, companies can eventually increase their sales. These increased sales ultimately result in a huge profit, which is beneficial for the company. Additionally, such claims also help in creating awareness about such products, which were not known earlier.

However, this has negative influence on customers. Such claims create demands for products among individuals which are not necessary in their daily life. For instance, in India, there was a huge demand in buying video games among children few years ago. As most of the advertisements were tempting and claimed new features. This created a lot of pressure for parents in the end.Furthermore, individuals often buy something impulsively just by trusting such ads. This results in wreckless spending of thier money. This also creates financial concerns among people as they tend to buy something out of thier financial limit.

In conclusion, Ads play a crucial role for the growth of businesses. However, such claims by the companies have negative impact on the customers. According to me, some features are beneficial for the consumers such as health benefits but these should not be to the extent of their financial limit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response addresses both parts of the question: you explain that businesses stress novelty to gain a competitive advantage and increase sales, and you clearly judge the trend negatively because it can encourage unnecessary purchases and financial pressure. The examples about chocolate companies and children wanting video games help make the discussion relevant. The explanation of why novelty claims help businesses is reasonably clear, and your conclusion maintains your position. To develop the response further, explain more precisely how advertising presents products as new—for example, through redesigned features or limited releases—and extend the consumer example to show the consequences. The final point about health benefits is introduced briefly but not connected clearly to your overall judgement, so some ideas are less fully developed than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs explaining business motives and consumer effects, and a conclusion. The contrast signalled by “However” helps readers follow the shift from benefits to drawbacks, while “For instance” introduces a relevant example. However, some linking is repetitive or mechanical: “Additionally,” “Furthermore,” and “This also” connect points without always showing their precise relationship. References such as “such claims” and “This” can also be vague, particularly where several possible ideas precede them. The conclusion’s point about health benefits feels disconnected from the preceding discussion. Use clearer topic sentences and more explicit links between each claim, explanation, and example to make progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “competitive advantage,” “attract more customers,” “impulsively,” and “financial concerns.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to be precise. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “indulged in” marketing campaigns, “creating demands,” and “wreckless spending.” Spelling errors in “negetive,” “thier,” and “wreckless” also reduce accuracy. Repetition of “companies,” “products,” and “claims” limits flexibility. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, businesses “run” campaigns, advertising “creates demand,” and consumers may “spend recklessly.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including purpose clauses (“in order to increase their sales”) and a conditional structure (“as they tend to buy something…”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are present. The sentence beginning “For instance, in India…” is a fragment because it is followed by “As most of the advertisements…” without a complete main clause. In “This created a lot of pressure for parents in the end.Furthermore,” a missing space after the full stop disrupts punctuation. There are also issues with articles and number, as in “negative influence” and “a huge demand in buying.” Practise joining dependent clauses to complete sentences and review article use and sentence boundaries.
