Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, many companies advertise their products by saying that they are new or improved. This is to attract the customers and increase their sales. In my opinion, this is a negative development because it encourages people to spend money on unnecessary products.
To start, there are several reasons many companies focus on new products in their advertisements.Firstly, they want to attract peoples attention.Secondly companies want to increse their sales and compair with other businesses. For example, companies advertise new mobile phone is more new features and encourning people to buy the new latest mobile phones, than old mobile work well.
On the other hand,I believe this is a negative develompemt because it can encourning people to waste money. Many people buy new products simply because they look modren or attractive.Howover, these products are not better than older ones. For instance, a person a new mobile a every year and previous mobile one is still working properly. As a result people may spend money waste and do not really need.Furthermore, people waste the time and money they see the advertise waste the time and waste the money.
To conclude, with my personal opinion businesses highlight the new features to products attract the people and increase sales. However, i believe this is a negative develompent and unnecessary spemding mo

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to attract customers and increase sales, and you clearly state that you see this as negative because it can encourage unnecessary spending. The mobile-phone example is relevant, but the explanation is difficult to follow and does not fully show how advertising leads consumers to replace working products. The second reason for businesses’ emphasis on novelty is also only briefly stated. The conclusion repeats your position rather than adding a final insight. The response is 46 words below the required minimum, so there is limited space to develop and support your ideas. Explain each reason more fully and add a specific example or consequence for consumers.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
Your response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph explaining businesses’ motives, a paragraph presenting your view, and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” helps readers identify the stages of your argument. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the final sentence of the second body paragraph repeats the idea of wasting time and money without developing it, while the conclusion is incomplete. Some links between ideas are unclear, particularly in the mobile-phone example. Use fewer repeated transitions and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports. A clearer sequence—reason, explanation, example, consequence—would make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a small range of relevant vocabulary, including “attract,” “increase their sales,” “features,” and “unnecessary products,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled expressions make parts difficult to interpret, such as “compair with other businesses,” “new latest mobile phones,” and “unnecessary spemding.” Repetition of “new,” “waste,” and “money” also limits precision. Choose accurate collocations and vary the language used to describe novelty and consumer behaviour. For example, you could refer to “product upgrades,” “persuade consumers to replace,” or “unnecessary purchases.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would also help readers understand your ideas without having to infer your meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some connected sentences and use basic structures to express reasons and consequences, including “because it encourages people to spend money” and “As a result people may spend money…” However, sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at longer sentences are often faulty. Examples include “companies advertise new mobile phone is more new features” and “a person a new mobile a every year,” where the relationships between subject, verb, and object are unclear. There are also recurring problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “attract peoples attention.” Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, then add one supporting clause. Check articles, agreement, and punctuation when editing.
