Student answer (Band 5.0)

Businesses advertise their new products to attract maximum customers. This is a simple business strategy followed by all.

Nowadays we usually see that whenever a new product is launched ,their main emphasis is on showing us how the product may benefit in either way.The advertisements usually show us how their product is new in some way. They do this in order to promote sales.People on watching the tempting advertisements are attracted to buy the product .In this way the more people have the urge to buy the product .Most of the product are almost the same but the increase the sales this strategy is chosen.

In my opinion this might be a negative development as people are attracted towards the product .Some people might actually need the product but some people even though they don't need it they buy it .This might also lead to wasting money on such a thing that is not useful. Many advertising sometimes can be misleading that might not be good for an indivisual

Talking about the positive development, the people might discover a product that can be very useful for them.If the product is organisers like desk organisers , kitchen organiser etc these types of product may prove very useful for the customer and through the advertisement the customers can know about it.

Advertisements are a source by which the businesses can sel their product .The advertisements are made in such a way that it can attract customers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both questions: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to attract buyers and increase sales, and you state that this is mainly negative because it can encourage unnecessary spending or mislead consumers. The example of organisers also recognises a possible benefit. However, the reasons remain general and are not developed with a specific example or explanation of how novelty persuades customers. Your position is present, but the positive point is introduced without clarifying how it affects your overall judgement. The response also falls 10 words short of the required minimum, and this limits the space available to develop your ideas. Extend the explanation and support your view with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from reasons for the advertising strategy to its disadvantages and then a possible benefit. This helps the reader identify the main topics. However, progression within paragraphs is often repetitive: the second paragraph repeats that advertisements show a product is new and attract customers, without clearly building the explanation. Linking phrases such as “In this way” and “Talking about the positive development” are used, but connections between ideas are sometimes unclear, and the final paragraph repeats the opening point rather than providing a focused conclusion. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, develop it step by step, and finish with a concise conclusion that restates your overall position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the central ideas, including “attract,” “promote sales,” “misleading,” and “useful.” There are also some attempts at topic-specific wording, such as “desk organisers” and “tempting advertisements.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “product,” “advertisements,” and “attract.” Some choices are inaccurate or awkward, such as “benefit in either way” and “the more people have the urge to buy the product.” Spelling errors in “indivisual” and “sel” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of precise terms for consumer behaviour and marketing, and check spelling and collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate mainly through simple sentences and make some attempts to combine ideas, for example, “Some people might actually need the product but some people even though they don't need it they buy it.” These attempts show an effort to express contrast, but the sentence structure is difficult to follow. Errors in agreement and sentence construction occur in examples such as “Most of the product are almost the same” and “the more people have the urge to buy the product.” Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, including missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise forming clear compound and complex sentences, especially with although, because, and which, and proofread for agreement, sentence boundaries, and punctuation.
