Student answer (Band 6.0)

Advertisement is the main tool of selling any product to the consumer. so while advertising, businesses usually emphasise that their products are somehow different and new than those which are already exist in the market. In my opinion, it might be because of the number of similar products that already being consumed in the market and I believe purely in terms of business perspective , it is a good way of introducing the product to the market.

When a product is produced, specially for the first time, advertisement is the only medium to introduce it in the market. It is the bridge that connects the producer with consumer through products. However, there is a very high chance of existence of similar product. For instance, if a food company is introducing a new instant noodles in a market where there are already varieties of it exist, they should come withe some extra features. Such as, it has 5 different flavors, it is cooked within a minute, it also comes in a family pack, so on and so forth. so, in order to pitch the sale amongst the consumer, advertisement plays a crucial role. Better the advertisement better chance of getting sold. An advertisement is the medium of advocating the features of a product to the general market. And since there are plenty of commodities that serves the same purpose in the market, businesses nowadays try to focus on the pitching the idea of their products being new than the already existing one through such advertisement. It not only attracts the consumers but also helps them to compete in a market where their product is generally new and fresh.

In conclusion, the reason behind businesses making an advertisement attractive and unique and try to tell their product is new is to put a foot in the market where competition is considerably high due to similar products. Although, an advertisement do help the products to compete in the market, in my opinion, the quality of products is the main thing that will help it to be sold and consumed by the general consumer in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: you explain that businesses stress novelty to distinguish products in a crowded market, and you give a qualified positive view from a business perspective. The instant-noodles example makes this reason concrete, while your conclusion adds the useful qualification that product quality matters for long-term success. However, the positive/negative judgement is not fully developed: the response mainly explains why novelty-focused advertising benefits businesses, with little consideration of possible drawbacks or effects on consumers. Some claims, such as advertising being the “only medium” to introduce a product, are also too absolute. Develop the evaluation with a clearer explanation of who benefits and any limitations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a developed body paragraph, and a conclusion, and the main line of reasoning is generally easy to follow. The example of instant noodles supports the discussion of competition, and the final paragraph returns to the central point. However, the body paragraph is long and contains several ideas that could be separated, while repeated links such as “so,” “however,” and “and” sometimes make the progression feel mechanical. The relationship between the example and the broader claim about novelty could also be signposted more clearly. Use paragraphing to distinguish the reason for emphasising novelty from your evaluation of whether this is positive, and vary transitions while keeping references explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “consumer,” “competition,” “features,” “commodities,” and “quality,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “the bridge that connects the producer with consumer.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “pitch the sale amongst the consumer,” “advocating the features,” and “better chance of getting sold.” Repetition of “market,” “product,” and “advertisement” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural business and advertising collocations, such as “differentiate a product,” “promote its features,” and “gain market share.” Check spelling and word forms, including “with” and “especially,” to make the vocabulary more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, using clauses introduced by “when,” “where,” and “although,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some sentences are also extended to explain cause and effect. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries recur. For example, “similar product” needs a plural or article, “there are already varieties of it exist” combines incompatible structures, and “an advertisement do help” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent. These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and revise long sentences into shorter, correctly punctuated units.
