Student answer (Band 6.5)

In modern advertising , it is common for companies to highlight the novelty of their products . This strategy driven by the market competition and consumer psychology , and i believe that it is largely a negative development.

There are two main reasons why business are emphasize products nowadays new. Firstly, in a saturated market , innovation is a key differentiator. Companies like Apple and Samsung must constantly release something new and improved. In some days which companies lounge different versions to stand out competitors and justify premium prices. Secondly, this tactics exploits consumer psychology . Peoples are naturally drawn to the latest trends and fear missing out. By labeling a product as new , advertisers create a sense of urgency and desirability, convincing consumer that the current version is best and old one is outdated.

However, i consider this trend have negative impact in our society and environment. The constant push of this trend of new products fuels a culture of excessive consumerism and waste.

Consumers or encourage to discard perfectly working items , such as phones or clothes, simply buy the new models according to trend. This leads produced the negative impacts specially for youngsters , and generate largest electronic and textile waste. For instance millions of phones are discard annually in Pakistan and other developing countries, harming the environment. Many new features are superficial and misleading the consumer for building trust or growing business.

In conclusion, while emphasizing novelty helps businesses survive in a competitive market by appealing to consumers desire for the latest goods, i am convinced that its overall impact is negative because its promote useless and wasteful consumptions and unhealthy lifestyles.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both parts of the prompt: you explain novelty as a way to stand out in a saturated market and as a means of appealing to consumers’ fear of missing out, then clearly state that the trend is negative. The discussion of consumerism and environmental waste extends your position, and the examples of phones and clothing make the consequences relevant. Your conclusion also restates the central argument. To strengthen the response further, develop some claims more precisely: the point that new features can be “superficial and misleading” is asserted but not explained, and the reference to impacts on young people is not supported with a specific example. Avoid broad claims such as millions of phones being discarded without clarifying their relevance or source.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction, reasons for businesses’ emphasis on novelty, the negative consequences, and a conclusion. The sequence within the body paragraphs is generally logical, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Some linking is less controlled, however. The sentence beginning “Consumers or encourage” does not connect smoothly to the preceding point, while “This leads produced the negative impacts” makes the relationship between the ideas difficult to follow. The final sentence of the second body paragraph also shifts abruptly from waste to misleading features. Use clearer references and transitions, and group related consequences together to make the progression more consistently smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “saturated market,” “key differentiator,” “consumer psychology,” “sense of urgency,” and “excessive consumerism.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the response attempts some topic-specific language. However, several word-choice and collocation errors reduce precision: “lounge different versions” appears to mean “launch different versions,” “stand out competitors” needs a suitable preposition, and “largest electronic and textile waste” is not a natural expression. There are also spelling and form errors such as “Peoples” and “discard.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling and word forms; this would make the vocabulary more flexible and precise without changing your argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex structures, including “By labeling a product as new, advertisers create…” and the contrast introduced by “while” in the conclusion. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as longer clauses. For example, “This strategy driven by…” is missing a finite verb, “business are emphasize” has an incorrect verb construction, and “i consider this trend have negative impact” contains problems with verb form and article use. Other examples include “Consumers or encourage” and “simply buy the new models,” where the intended passive or infinitive structure is not formed correctly. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb patterns, articles, and complete sentence construction before adding more complex clauses.
