Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays. businesses advertise their product as unique from the products of other brands. This tactic is done to improve their sales and to attract more customers. As far as my view is concerned, i think this is a positive development as far as businesses are concerned.
Businesses tend to improve their advertisments in order to attract more customers. How the product is marketed has a great effect on the sales of the product. Marketing product as new or unique attract more customers as they are more eager to try the product and to compare with other brands that what makes it different. This results in increases sales of the product, benefitting businesses. Local cosmetic brands in Pakistan recruit large number of marketting perssonels who advertise the product in a way that attract more customers. Consider vitamin C serum, businesses incorporate one simple chemical and then advertise it in a way that people tend to by it thinking the new chemical will have more benefits.
Emphasising on the uniqueness of the product, generates good revenue. When companies advertises their product as different from other, people gets curious to try the product. This results in large number of population buying the product. Since last decade, their is hype of hyaluronic acid serums in the market. All the companies are making it exactly the same but couple of years ago, loreal marketed its serum as different from other but just adding small percentage of salicilic acid and advertised this in a way that resulted in increased sale of the serum generating large profit.
In conclusion, advertising the product as something new compared to the item already in market positively influence businesses both in term of reputation in the market and among customers as well as earning more profit by making few changes to the altready existing product.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions: you explain that businesses stress novelty to attract customers and increase sales, and you state that you see this as positive for businesses. The examples of vitamin C and hyaluronic acid serums help make the discussion relevant. However, the response only partly develops the task. The reasons focus almost entirely on curiosity and profit, while the positive/negative judgement is limited to business benefits; you do not consider effects on consumers or other possible drawbacks. The examples also need clearer explanation of how the products’ claimed novelty affects buyers. To develop the response further, explain your position more fully and support it with a broader, more specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main focus on sales and profit is generally easy to follow. However, progression between the body paragraphs is limited: both repeat the same point that novelty makes customers curious and increases sales. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “This results in” appearing repeatedly, and “Since last decade” does not clearly connect the market trend to the example that follows. The conclusion restates the central claim but introduces “reputation” without developing it earlier. Give each body paragraph a distinct purpose, use clearer references between ideas, and make the relationship between examples and claims explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “advertise,” “unique,” “customers,” “revenue” and “profit,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “hyaluronic acid serums” and “salicylic acid.” However, the range is limited by repeated words and phrases, especially “product,” “customers,” “different” and “results in.” Several word choices, forms and spellings are inaccurate, including “advertisments,” “marketting perssonels,” “by it” and “altready existing.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “large number of population.” Build a wider set of precise advertising and consumer-behaviour terms, and check spelling and collocations so that your meaning is expressed more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause in “as they are more eager to try the product” and a concluding sentence with several linked ideas. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and punctuation recur. For example, “Marketing product as new or unique attract” needs a clearer noun phrase and a verb agreeing with its subject; “When companies advertises … people gets curious” contains agreement errors; and “This results in increases sales” has an incorrect verb pattern. Capitalisation and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “Nowadays.” and lowercase “i.” These errors do not prevent the overall message from being understood, but they make several sentences awkward. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and simpler sentence patterns before adding complexity.
