Student answer (Band 6.5)

In order to market products to customers, many businesses have found an innovative strategy for promotion, that is to introduce products as "one of a kind''. This approach creates a positive impression on consumers as they are attracted to its uniqueness and a rare additional quality, making it completely new to the market.

Many brands try to highlight their products as extraodinary, to gain attraction of customers. For example, detergents adding a stain remover chemical, advertising their detergents as the first ever "instant stain remover" or a local chocolate shop, introducing chocolate bars with pistachios creating a unique blend of flavour that gained traction and quickly became popular. All these additional components, helped businesses to market their goods as unique and brand new, which eventually brought money.

With such strategy businesses easily capture attention of customers especially in a competitive market where numerous companies are introducing similar products, allowing them to distinguish among competitors. Moreover, most consumers are appealled to latest trends and technology and therefor promotion of goods with their "better quality and additional features" makes them curious and eager to buy. For example, smartphone manufactures update camera quality, storage etc to keep touch with latest technology.

On the other hand, this trend encourage positive deveopments since competitors put effort to make improvements to their products and guarantee quality. In response to customers' need, businesses can then develop innovative products, improve designs or add new features. Although constant novelty might possess drawbacks too, since it indirectly results in overconsumption and unneccesary expense.

In conclusion, businesses should highlight the novelty of their products in the market to gain customers and remain competitive. Despite the negative consequences of innovative products, the positive outcome outweighs more since it encourages companies to be more creative and advance in technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses stress novelty to attract consumers and stand out in competitive markets, and you judge the trend to be positive overall while acknowledging overconsumption and unnecessary expense. The detergent, chocolate and smartphone examples help illustrate your reasons, and your position remains clear in the conclusion. This is a well-supported response, although some claims are broad—for instance, that novelty “eventually brought money”—and the drawbacks are mentioned only briefly. To strengthen the discussion further, explain more specifically how novelty-focused advertising can mislead consumers or encourage unnecessary purchases, and develop the counterpoint before weighing it against the benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs explaining why businesses promote novelty, a paragraph considering effects, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and examples are placed near the points they support. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion.” However, the relationship between the third and fourth body paragraphs could be clearer: the discussion shifts from consumer appeal to positive development, then introduces drawbacks without fully connecting these points. Some transitions feel formulaic, and “All these additional components” has an unclear reference. Use more precise referencing and make the contrast between benefits and costs explicit to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “competitive market,” “distinguish,” “innovative products,” “overconsumption,” and “additional features.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt less common expressions such as “one of a kind” and “gained traction.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “gain attraction of customers,” “appealled to latest trends,” and “keep touch with latest technology.” There are also spelling errors, such as “extraodinary,” “manufactures,” and “unneccesary.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and control. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “attract customers” and “keep up with the latest technology.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “where numerous companies are introducing similar products” and a concessive clause beginning “Although constant novelty…”. Most sentences remain understandable, and the range is sufficient to express explanations and contrasts. Some errors persist in agreement and sentence construction: “this trend encourage” should be “this trend encourages,” while “Although constant novelty might possess drawbacks too” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence. The opening sentence also has an awkward structure around “strategy for promotion, that is to introduce…”. Review subject–verb agreement and ensure subordinate clauses are attached to a main clause. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the control already shown.
