Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays , businesses usually emphasise their products should look new in some way while advertising. And its true that they are adapting this method for almost every product . It has both advantages and disadvantages . But i think its advantages outweigh disadvantages .These disadvantages can be overcomed by taking some responsible steps to improve advertisement.
Imagine a company like apple launches its new phone and doesnot advertise will anyone buy that ? . And if they advertise but not in a proper manner with a old used phone and blurry images will anyone buy that -never. It is the demand of industry what looks good gets more attention and eventually people will buy that eye catching new product.
Similarly, used car auction apps where everyone wants to sell their car . Eventually the one which looks new and clean will get the public attention and would always be in a win win situation . It encourages people to take care of their things which is a positive aspect .So for businesses to sell their product it is necessary for them that their product looks new. This will also help people to sell their product and earn good profit on it.
But it has some disadvantages too , people use this to spread false information about their product. Like in an advertisement the company claims that their fruits and vegetables are fresh by showing some shining fresh pictures in their advertisement. But when you buy that product it turns out to be a disaster just because of misinformation they spread. Similar case while buying used products people usually hide the faults of that product by just showing a neat and clean pictures. In result to that buyer will eventually have to face the cosequences.
In conclusion to that , i still believe that its advantages are far more greater than its disadvantages And they can be overcomed by using the technology responsibly while advertising anything . With clear explaination of the product . This would help both seller and buyer and eventually we can overcome this disadvantages

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you suggest that businesses highlight novelty to attract attention and increase sales, and you state that the development is positive overall despite the risk of misleading advertising. The Apple-phone and used-car examples make your position relevant and understandable. However, the reasons for emphasising that products are new are not explored in much depth; for instance, the discussion focuses mainly on appearance and attention, rather than explaining other possible motives such as standing out from competitors or encouraging repeat purchases. The positive case is clearer than the negative one, which is illustrated but not fully weighed against your conclusion. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and make the link between responsible advertising and reducing the harms more specific.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting positive and negative aspects, and a conclusion. The shift signalled by “But it has some disadvantages too” helps the reader follow the argument, and examples are generally placed with the relevant point. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose, and several links feel mechanical or unclear. For example, “Similarly” introduces a used-car example, but the connection between this and businesses presenting products as new could be explained more explicitly. The conclusion repeats the position and the idea of overcoming disadvantages without clearly synthesising the discussion. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and ensure each paragraph develops one central point in a clear sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “advertisement,” “misinformation,” “public attention,” and “false information.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “eye catching” and “win win situation.” However, the range is limited and some wording is inaccurate or unnatural, which makes parts of the argument less precise. Examples include “a old used phone,” “a neat and clean pictures,” and “overcomed”; these choices or forms distract from the message. Repetition of “product,” “advertise,” and “new” also limits flexibility. Build a wider set of accurate collocations for marketing and consumer behaviour, and check spelling and word forms so that your vocabulary communicates ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including conditional questions such as “if they advertise but not in a proper manner … will anyone buy that?” This shows some willingness to vary sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is uneven, particularly in questions, clauses, and sentence boundaries. For example, “Imagine a company like apple launches its new phone and doesnot advertise will anyone buy that?” combines clauses without clear punctuation or a complete conditional structure. There are also errors in articles and agreement, as in “a old used phone” and “a neat and clean pictures,” alongside inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation. Practise forming complete conditional sentences and separating independent clauses; more accurate control of these patterns would make the argument easier to read.
