Student answer (Band 5.0)

In their marketing process, commerical entities these days are often highliting that their products

are new in some way. I personally think that this can be both positive and negative change for us. Companies trying to improve and change their procuct can give us more new and different features.

In one hand, companies trying to make changes in their product can often give us much easier ways to use them as they can add many different new and more effective features. For instant, adding new applications in mobile for better location tracking can help people to not get lost easily and find the fastest rout to their destination. Similarly, bringing new change in the product can also help companies to attract more customers and increase their sales marginally which can also helo goverment to get more fund as tax to help develop our country.

In the other hand, business trying to make some new change in the product or service they sell can make them more costly for the people with financial issues as some service can be important for the citizens but they can have financial problems. Likewise, changing the service and product can make people confuse and make it hard for them to understand. For example, mobile companies adding automatic important application download feature can make people confuse.

In conclusion, emphasiseing the products in new way can make the productive more effective and more better to use or can make the product more expensive for poor people to get access to the goods.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a relevant response to both questions: you suggest that businesses highlight novelty to attract customers and increase sales, and you present both benefits and drawbacks, concluding that the change can be positive or negative. The examples about location tracking and automatic app downloads help illustrate your points. However, the reasons for emphasising novelty are only briefly explained, and the discussion of the negative effects is not fully developed. Your position is also mixed rather than clearly resolving whether this is positive or negative overall. The response is 247 words, three words below the 250-word minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt are not counted. Develop each main reason further and state a clearer overall judgement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting effects, and a conclusion. The examples generally follow the points they are intended to support, so the reader can follow the main line of thought. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose: the point about tax revenue, for instance, is added without explaining its connection to advertising novelty. The repeated transitions “In one hand” and “In the other hand” are also inaccurate and make the linking feel mechanical. Use “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and make each paragraph develop one central idea in a clear sequence. More precise referencing and links between claims and examples would strengthen the overall flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “features,” “location tracking,” “attract more customers,” and “financial issues.” There are also attempts to use more formal expressions such as “commercial entities” and “emphasise.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable, including “commerical,” “highliting,” “make changes,” and “increase their sales marginally.” Some wording is repetitive, particularly the repeated references to “new change” and “product.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and choose precise terms rather than relying on general words such as “things” or repeated forms of “new.” This would make your meaning clearer and your vocabulary more effective for an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses with “as” and “which,” as in the sentence about new features helping users. The main ideas are usually understandable, but errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity and control. For example, “Companies trying to improve and change their product can give us” lacks a finite verb in its opening clause, while “can make people confuse” uses an incorrect grammatical form. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence construction, such as “a both positive and negative change” being needed in the introduction. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and article use. Greater accuracy in these patterns would make your complex sentences easier to follow.
