Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both questions: you suggest businesses promote novelty to attract buyers and compete, and you clearly state that you see this as negative because it wastes money and creates pollution. The phone-colour example helps illustrate planned obsolescence, while the point that advertisements encourage unnecessary purchases is relevant. However, the explanation of why businesses emphasise newness is brief and sometimes unclear, particularly the discussion of profits and launching further products. The examples of household items are listed rather than explained, and the conclusion repeats the competition point without adding support. The response is also 12 words below the required minimum. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation and a specific, fully explained example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “First,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help show the intended sequence. The overall progression, however, is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined without clear relationships. For example, the discussion moves from attracting buyers to profits, recycling, product errors and competition in quick succession. “Moreover” is repeated, and the final sentence repeats an earlier point rather than bringing the argument together. Some references, such as “this” in “this products,” are also unclear. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, then use a clear explanation and example before moving to the next point.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “modern technology,” “competition,” “advertisements,” and “pollution,” and you communicate the general argument despite a limited range. However, vocabulary is often repetitive, especially “products,” “companies,” and “new,” and several word choices or collocations make the meaning hard to understand. Phrases such as “attractive people eye-contact,” “employment are allotismate,” and “fight to other company” are not natural or clear in context. Spelling errors, including “devlopment,” “garbages,” and “comapany,” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of topic-specific expressions and check spelling and collocations; for example, explain that firms “differentiate their products” or “gain a competitive advantage.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You use some simple sentences and attempt longer structures with “because,” “so,” and “after,” but the range is limited and errors are frequent enough to make parts of the response difficult to follow. Subject–verb agreement is often incorrect, as in “this product are new” and “many companies sell for products.” Articles, plurals and verb forms also cause problems: “a many changes,” “people then … buy the new one,” and “after they realise this products are errors.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are inconsistent, including the lower-case start after “products.” Practise accurate simple sentence patterns first, then add subordinate clauses. Check agreement, singular and plural forms, and punctuation when editing each sentence.
