Student answer (Band 5.5)

Advertising is a way of marketing the products. This process is running from many years. Some companies also request famous celebrities to advertise for their company or product. The companies do advertisements to spread some part of knowledge about their product to a large number of people.

Now a days , businesses usually emphasise that their products are new in some way. This is because after some period of time , customers are bored of using the same product. They want something new ,which is better , more useful , easier to use , completely safe and many other factors and different points from different customers according to the product that they are buying. Every customer has their own opinion for some changes to be made in the product. The businessmen listen to the customers' opinion. Then they make changes according to the customers' request in some way if it is possible or they make changes by which the customers' wants / needs can be satisfied. This is a positive development as the people are finding it easier and less time consuming to use new products with easier and faster technology. They see many different benefits according to the different products.

The changes in the product are not given completely positive impact. There are customers who are used to the old products and are satisfied to use that product even today. The main reasons are they are used to it and their work is done easily as they have a grip or practice of that old product. One more reason can be that they have tried to use the new product but are not comfortable. For some people it can also be a problem of the price of the new product.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses promote newness to respond to customers’ desire for improved products, and you state that this is positive because newer technology can make products easier and faster to use. You also acknowledge drawbacks for people who prefer familiar products or find new ones uncomfortable or expensive. These are relevant points, but the explanation of why businesses emphasise newness focuses mainly on customer preferences; it would be stronger if you also explained how novelty attracts attention, differentiates products from competitors, or encourages sales. The positive position is clear, though the benefits and drawbacks are not weighed in much depth. Develop one or two examples to make the reasoning more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining customer demand and the positive view, and a final paragraph presenting disadvantages. This helps the reader follow the main line of thought. However, the opening comments about celebrity advertising and general marketing do not lead clearly into the specific question, and the second paragraph contains several ideas in a long sequence. Linking phrases such as “This is because” and “One more reason” are understandable but somewhat repetitive, while the relationship between customer feedback and businesses’ decision to advertise products as new could be made clearer. Use a more focused introduction, divide the reasoning into clearer steps, and connect each paragraph directly to the question.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “customers,” “changes,” “technology,” “comfortable,” and “price.” There are also attempts to express distinctions, such as customers having different opinions and needs. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, including repeated uses of “product,” “changes,” and “different.” Some collocations are unnatural, for example “spread some part of knowledge” and “given completely positive impact,” which make the meaning less fluent. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and natural combinations, such as describing products as “updated” or “innovative,” and saying that changes “have a positive impact.” Check spacing and spelling conventions in forms such as “Nowadays” as well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can generally understand your argument. Some sentence patterns are controlled, such as “There are customers who are used to the old products,” but other longer sentences become difficult to manage. For example, the sentence beginning “They want something new” contains a long list and an unclear connection to “different points from different customers.” There are also errors in articles, tense, and sentence construction, as in “This process is running from many years” and “The main reasons are they are used to it.” Punctuation and spacing around commas are inconsistent. Practise building complex sentences with clear clauses, and review article use and natural tense choices.
