Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern world consumerism increased a lot and brands use differrent methods and advertisements to make their product stand-out in the market and claim that their product is new or different in some way. I partially believe it is a positive development and there are multiple reasons behind this trend.

One of the major reasons that brands stressed that their product is new in some way from existing brands in the market is to increase the sales. For instance, famous companies such as Samsung and Redmi highlight some specifications of their smartphones like higher megapixel and bigger battery to sell more units. However, all the brands are more or less providing the same features.

It is positive in a way that it allow the users to choose the product according to their needs and preferences. For example, if a consumer wants a smartphone with longer battery life he can buy a phone by seeing the specs of that specific model.

In contrast, if every business adopt the same strategy it creates the confusion and makes it difficult for the user to decide which product is good for him. To illustrate my point, nowadays tech gaints are doing the same things like giving the similar names to their products and confusing the buyer.

To sum up, where advertisement is intended to boost the sales of companies many it also make it convienent for purchaser to decide a product according to his needs. On the other hand, when brands adopt the same strategy it make the market place more vague.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses stress novelty to increase sales, and you give a qualified view that this can help consumers but may also create confusion. The smartphone examples make the benefits relevant, and your conclusion restates the two sides. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The sales motive is stated but not explored beyond the claim that brands highlight specifications, while the drawback about similar product names is brief and could explain more clearly how this affects purchasing decisions. Develop each reason with a fuller explanation or a specific consequence, and make your overall judgement more decisive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the sales motive and consumer benefit, a contrasting drawback, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “For instance,” “In contrast,” and “To sum up” help readers follow the progression. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in connecting ideas. At times, however, the links feel formulaic, and the relationship between points could be made more explicit. For example, the paragraph about confusion would connect more smoothly if it explained how repeated claims of novelty undermine the useful product comparisons described earlier. Clearer referencing and more varied transitions would strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “consumerism,” “specifications,” “preferences,” and “strategy.” These help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. You also attempt more specific expressions, but some choices and spelling errors reduce precision: “tech gaints” and “convienent” are misspelled, while “make the market place more vague” is an awkward way to describe consumer confusion. “Higher megapixel” is also imprecise in this context. Proofread spelling and choose more natural collocations, such as describing a market as confusing or difficult to navigate. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish genuine innovation from promotional claims.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if a consumer wants” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences communicate their intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “it allow the users” needs subject–verb agreement, and “if every business adopt” requires a plural verb form. In “it also make it convenient,” the verb should agree with the subject, and the final sentence has a similar agreement problem in “it make.” Articles and sentence construction also need attention in phrases such as “buy a product” and “decide which product is good for him.” Check agreement and article use during revision, while continuing to practise varied sentence structures.
