Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's business advertisements, businesses usually emphasise that their product is new in some way. The reason for it is simple- to achieve people's attention and to show that their products are better. I believe that such acts have both postive and negative development.

In contemporary society, there has been a competition among companies to dominate the money market. Many compaines are making the same kind of product. As all are making the same products, the profit depends on which company or business is able to provide better services. Consumers are always looking for products with the latest technology. For example, when going to buy TV, people will first look at its specs. The TV that is more user-friendly, and is equipped with newer functions and programs will catch people's eye, consequently making peoplen buy that TV. People usually come to know about these products with newer facilities from advertisements. That's why, to create engagement over their products, businesses put more emphasis that their products are new in some way.

On the one hand, products that are newer in some way, has some positive developments. Everyday newer inventions, technologies comes to light. People are always attracted over products that can convenience them more, that are more user-friendly than earlier. So businesses are looking for ways to satisfy their customers by making newer products with increased functionality. As a result, our society is being modernised day by day.

On the other hand, there are some drawbacks of such trends. Luxury comes with a price. The products equipped with more applicability, costs more than other products. Poor people can't afford these products. As a result, they have to make do with backdated products. Ths creates disparity between people who can afford luxury and those who can't.

In my opinion, businesses should introduce products that are advanced in functions and usality. However, businesses shouldn't focus only on profit rahter they should make the products at an afforable price so that every one can enjoy these appliances. Insted of more proftt, they should work to increase the number of their consumers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to attract attention and distinguish products, and you discuss benefits and drawbacks before giving a clear final view. The television example helps illustrate how new features influence consumers. Your positive point about convenience and modernisation is relevant, while the affordability argument gives a contrasting consequence. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the claim that newer products modernise society is broad, and the discussion of inequality would be stronger with a specific example or explanation of its wider effects. Your conclusion also shifts towards advice to businesses rather than directly weighing whether the trend is positive or negative. Develop these points and make the final judgement more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an explanation of why businesses promote novelty, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. This makes the line of argument easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “As a result” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, the progression is somewhat mechanical, and some links are not fully precise. For example, the move from competition between companies to consumers’ preference for technology could be explained more explicitly. The repeated use of “products” and “newer” also makes connections feel less varied. Use clearer referencing and a wider range of natural transitions, while ensuring each paragraph develops one central point in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “latest technology,” “user-friendly,” “functionality,” “disparity,” and “affordable price.” These choices show some range beyond basic language. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “compaines,” “postive,” “Ths,” “rahter,” and “Insted” should be corrected, while “money market” is not a natural expression for competition between businesses. Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise, such as “create engagement over their products” and “increased applicability.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “market share,” “generate interest in,” and “practical features” would make the argument sound more natural and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a reason clause (“As all are making the same products…”) and a relative clause (“The TV that is more user-friendly…”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “products that are newer in some way, has” should use a plural verb, and “Everyday newer inventions, technologies comes to light” has problems with both number agreement and sentence structure. In “when going to buy TV,” an article is needed, and “The products … costs more” has subject–verb disagreement. Review agreement and article use, and proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries. Greater accuracy across these structures would make your argument easier to read.
