Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the recent times, businesses are emphasizing more on advertising their products in such a way that they look unique. This is due to raise in competition and availability of multiple social media platforms. I believe this is a negative development, because this will lead to false marketing and illegal practices, a company might follow to increase thier profits.
The main reason for businesses to emphasise that their products are new in some way is due to rise in competition. In today's world it is easier for them to use the assistance of social media platforms such as Instagram,Facebook and Youtube to gain global reach. Therefore, this will also have international competition for the same product a business offers. For example, if a person wants to sell hoodies online, if is essencial for him to have a differentiating factor to overcome other competitors. This will result in advertising their products in such a way that it looks completely new.
But i believe that this is a negative development, as business owners may use false practices to outstand themselves. One major reason for this view is, many companies promise wrong expectations to customers for their products . For instance, an energy drink advertisement promising to give 7 hours of productivity. Another reason is, to increase their sales organizations follow illegal techniques such defaming other brands in their advertisments.
In conclusion, although standing out from the competitors is crucial to gain customer attention, I believe following wrong methods to fullfill this step is completely wrong and a negative development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the prompt: competition and social media are offered as reasons for highlighting novelty, and your position that this is negative is clear. The examples of an online hoodie seller and an energy drink advertisement help illustrate your points. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: the link between social media reach and international competition could be developed, and the claim about companies defaming rivals would benefit from a clearer example. The conclusion restates your view but does not add much development. The response is 248 words, so it falls two words short of the 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the prompt are not counted. Add relevant explanation rather than padding to meet the requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph explaining why businesses stress novelty, a paragraph giving reasons for your negative view, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. The sentence beginning “For example, if a person wants to sell hoodies online” repeats “if” and is difficult to follow, while “This will result” does not clearly identify whether it refers to competition or social media. Use more precise referencing and make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “global reach,” “differentiating factor,” and “illegal techniques.” These choices allow you to discuss advertising and business practices, and the meaning is generally clear. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “outstand themselves,” “wrong expectations,” and “fullfill this step.” There are also spelling and form errors, including “thier,” “essencial,” and “advertisments,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural business-related phrasing and check spelling carefully. For example, describe companies as trying to “differentiate themselves” and say they “create unrealistic expectations” rather than promising “wrong expectations.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a conditional example beginning “if a person wants to sell hoodies online.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are noticeable. For instance, “This is due to raise in competition” needs an article and a grammatical construction such as “This is due to a rise in competition.” The sentence “For example, if a person wants to sell hoodies online, if is essencial…” contains a faulty clause, and “One major reason for this view is, many companies…” incorrectly joins the clauses. Review articles, clause structure, and sentence boundaries, and use a comma after introductory phrases. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
