Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that many buisnesses ususally emphasize that their products are new in some way. I agree with this statement as we are living in a fast-paced era and staying relevant and different has become necessity for buisnesses.

With growing technologies and emerging ideas, the competition among different buisnesses have increased. In my opinion, it is a positive development as all the buisnesses try to bring new ideas, and connect with their audience. In the times where people usually check reviews online before investing their money, when a buisness advertises something new about their products, it gains attention from people. A successful marketing campaign is one of the most effective ways to increase sales.

There are many examples in everyday lives where one buys something because of an advertisement. For instance, my friends and I went to a cafe because we saw an advertisement of a dessert on instagram. The way that cafe presented their dessert on reels caught our eyes and we wanted to try it. This is the power of bringing new ideas in advertisement. We are living in times of social media and have access to everything online. Before going to a place, buying something or dining out, people check its reviews. Anything which is trending online, and have good advertisement or something new in it, people prefer that. That is why we can observe trend of hiring influencers in marketing reels to grab attention to the product.

In conclusion, buisnesses should focus on their product along its marketing. At the end its the trust which brings customers again. While maintaining standards of the previous products, these buisnesses should advertise and add something new to their collection. This will lead to long term success of their buisness.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to stand out in competition and attract attention, and you clearly regard this as positive. The café dessert example and the reference to influencers help illustrate how novelty can encourage customers to try a product. However, the reasons are not developed equally: the discussion of competition and online reviews is broad, and the essay could explain more precisely why businesses choose to present products as new and how this benefits consumers or companies. Your conclusion adds a useful qualification about maintaining product standards and customer trust, but this point could be connected more fully to your evaluation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to reasons and an example, then a conclusion. The café anecdote gives the central point a clear illustration, and phrases such as “For instance” and “In conclusion” help signal stages in the argument. However, progression within the main body is less controlled: the discussion shifts from reviews to advertising, social media, trends and influencers without clearly separating or developing these related points. Some links are also repetitive, particularly repeated references to “new” ideas and online attention. Organise the reasons into clearer steps, and use pronouns or concise transitions to show how each sentence builds on the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “competition,” “marketing campaign,” “audience,” “reviews,” and “influencers,” so the main ideas are generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “fast-paced era” and “grab attention.” However, the range is somewhat repetitive, with “new,” “advertisement,” and “businesses” recurring frequently, and some word choices or collocations are awkward. For example, “the power of bringing new ideas in advertisement” is not a natural way to express the point, while “investing their money” is less precise than simply describing a purchase. Check spelling carefully: “businesses” and “usually” are misspelled repeatedly, which weakens control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “when a business advertises something new … it gains attention” and a relative clause in “Anything which is trending online.” Meaning remains clear overall, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the competition … have increased” needs singular agreement (“has increased”), and “Anything … have good advertisement” needs a matching singular verb. Articles and possessives are also sometimes missing, as in “has become necessity” and “At the end its the trust”; write “a necessity” and “it’s the trust.” The long sentence beginning “In the times where people…” is difficult to control. Use a wider range of accurately formed sentences and check agreement, articles and punctuation.
