Student answer (Band 6.0)
These days, companies are mostly focusing on the promotion of their products being innovative and upgraded in a certain way. While this trend has some drawbacks but i believe that it is largely a positive development.
To begin with, there are several reasons why companies emphasize novelty. There is so much saturation in the market and competition is higher than ever. there are many companies which are selling the same products. Therefore, businesses
tend to focus on the promotion of their prodcuts being innovative and that there products have advance and upgraded features. For an instance, there are so many beauty products or skin care products in the market. The companies are now emphasizing more and more on upgraded ingredients and innovative technologies. Cars and mobile phones companies are upgrading their models and tend to focus on advertisement.
On the other hand, Consumers psychologically percieve new products as better and more prestigious. Novelty attract customers and make them realise that the product is actually worth trying. Poople believe that the new products are better than the old ones and they are more modern. People desire for change and are bored with old products. Firms highlight novelty to stand out.
On the negative side, this trend encourages unnecessary spending, financial pressure, consumerism and throw away culture. There are also the chances of misleading and deceptive marketing. Getting the same product with a new label and packaging with high price. Admittedly, this trend has some negative developments but i believe, its advantages outweighs the disadvantages as it drives innovation,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: the response explains why businesses promote novelty, citing market competition and consumers’ perception that new products are more modern or prestigious, and it gives a clear overall view that the trend is positive despite drawbacks. The examples of skincare, cars and mobile phones are relevant. However, the reasons are asserted more than developed: for instance, explain how highlighting upgraded features helps a company win customers in a crowded market. Your position also becomes less convincing at the end because the conclusion says the advantages outweigh the disadvantages but only begins to explain this with “as it drives innovation.” Develop that benefit and connect it explicitly to your judgement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure, moving from reasons for novelty to consumer psychology and then to disadvantages and a final position. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and connectors such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand” and “On the negative side” signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, and the second paragraph’s “On the other hand” does not clearly contrast with the preceding point. The final paragraph combines drawbacks and the conclusion without fully completing the argument. Improve cohesion by using more precise links between claims and examples, and give the conclusion a distinct, complete sentence that summarises why the benefits outweigh the costs.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “saturation in the market,” “novelty,” “prestigious,” “consumerism” and “deceptive marketing.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common terms are attempted. However, several word-choice, spelling and collocation errors reduce precision, such as “promotion of their products being innovative,” “throw away culture,” and “Novelty attract customers.” Repetition of “new,” “products” and “companies” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural combinations and accurate forms, for example, describe firms as “highlighting product innovation” and refer to a “throwaway culture.” Proofread spelling carefully, including “perceive,” “people” and “products.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a concession in the opening and cause-and-effect sentences such as “Therefore, businesses tend to focus…” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening construction “While this trend has some drawbacks but…” incorrectly combines two contrast markers; use “Although this trend has some drawbacks, I believe…” Subject–verb agreement is also inconsistent in “Novelty attract customers” and “its advantages outweighs the disadvantages.” There are sentence-boundary and punctuation problems, including the lowercase “there” after a full stop and the unfinished final clause, “as it drives innovation.” Check agreement, sentence boundaries and complete your concluding sentence to improve accuracy.
