Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify a relevant reason for emphasising novelty: businesses want to attract consumers and compete with other sellers. You also attempt to discuss whether this is positive or negative, using organic or distinctive products as a possible benefit and misleading online advertising as a drawback. However, the task is only partially addressed: the reasons for highlighting newness are not clearly explained, and the positive/negative judgement is never made explicit. The examples are brief or unclear, and the conclusion, “both views have valid points,” does not answer which side you consider stronger. Develop one or two reasons in detail, explain their effects, and state your own position clearly in both the introduction and conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic essay shape, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “To begin with” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. These markers help readers recognise a change of viewpoint. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from sales and competition to organic ingredients without clearly connecting these points, while the second shifts from poor-quality products to scams and blocked customers. Some linking phrases, such as “In other words,” do not introduce a clear restatement. The conclusion is too brief to bring the argument together. Organise each paragraph around one main idea, then explain and illustrate it in a clear sequence, using references that make the links between sentences explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “consumer attention,” “market competitors,” “organic,” “quality,” and “advertisement.” This gives the response some useful topic coverage. However, the range is limited and many word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “approach related creativity,” “product mage,” “genuine,” and “negative product.” Repetition of “product” and “reason” also reduces precision. Aim to use familiar vocabulary accurately before reaching for less natural phrases: for example, describe a product as “innovative” or “distinctive,” and say that advertising “attracts consumers” or “highlights new features.” Proofread spelling and choose expressions that convey your intended meaning directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use some longer sentence forms and attempt to connect ideas with clauses, for example, “This is mainly because it it can have a positive impact on consumers and retailers.” However, the range is limited, and complex attempts are often faulty. Errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms occur throughout: “businesses … is observe,” “one of the major reason,” and “the manufacturer work … and made them” make relationships between ideas unclear. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings and around examples. Build accuracy with clear subject–verb patterns and shorter sentences, then add subordinate clauses once the basic structure is secure. Check each sentence for a complete subject and verb, consistent tense, and appropriate punctuation.
