Student answer (Band 5.5)

Businesses nowadays usually emphasise that their products are new in some way. To stand out their products in the market, businesses usually do this strategy. It helps to reach the wider audience and showcase their products in a better way compared to competitors. And I think it is a positive development. Creating the same product and marketing a the product in a same way is not very effective move. To make the product reach more customers businesses need to make their peoduct stand out more in some way. For this businesses apply different strategies, some market their products with different approaches, some fix the issue of current products and make a new one to solve the existing problem of the products. It helps to remove ad fatigue from the targeted consumers, and make the marketing strategy more effective. It also helps business to earn more revenue by potentially increasing their sales. Recent example of this strategy is that there was a cricket tournament running in my city. For the sponsor there was a energy drink and there were countless energy drink in the market. This energy drink that got sponsorship applied a brilliant strategy. They released a energy drink with can featuring the team image of each franchise. For the seven franchise it released seven different types of energy drink cans. It helped the business to reach the wider consumers. It directly marketed it's product by relating with people's sentiment. Currently, it is the number one energy drink of Nepal for constant three years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to stand out, reach more consumers and increase sales, and you clearly state that you see this as positive. The energy-drink sponsorship example gives your argument a relevant, concrete illustration. However, the reasons are mostly asserted rather than fully explained, and the example’s link to products being presented as “new” could be made clearer. The response also contains 242 words, so it is 8 words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to develop your ideas. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely why novelty attracts buyers and add a developed counterpoint or further support for your positive view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable progression from the reasons for emphasising newness to your opinion and then an example. Linking phrases such as “For this” and “It also helps” show attempts to connect ideas. However, the opening combines several points in one long paragraph, so the argument’s stages are not clearly separated. Some connections are also repetitive or abrupt: “It helps” appears several times, and the move from general marketing strategies to the cricket sponsorship example could be signposted more clearly. Use separate paragraphs for the explanation, your evaluation and the example, and vary referencing so readers can easily identify what “it” refers to. This would make the overall progression clearer and cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “targeted consumers,” “ad fatigue,” “sponsorship,” “franchise” and “revenue.” These choices show an attempt to discuss marketing beyond basic terms. However, the range is uneven, and several phrases are inaccurate or awkward, such as “stand out their products,” “fix the issue of current products” and “reach the wider consumers.” There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “peoduct” and “it's” where the possessive “its” is needed. Repeated use of “product,” “business” and “helps” makes the expression less flexible. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling and possessives during proofreading.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to follow. For example, “Creating the same product and marketing a the product in a same way is not very effective move” has problems with articles and sentence construction. In “For the seven franchise it released seven different types,” the plural noun and the sentence structure need correction. Article use is also inconsistent in “a energy drink,” and the final sentence, “for constant three years,” does not use a clear grammatical time expression. Practise accurate article use, plural agreement and sentence boundaries, then proofread longer sentences to ensure each clause is complete and clear.
