Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes a limited attempt to address the question, but it does not explain clearly why businesses highlight the newness of their products or establish whether this is a positive or negative development. The opening refers generally to effects on daily life, while the Pakistan example about printed advertisements and writing on walls is relevant to advertising but does not explain the appeal of novelty. The statement that advertising can have “both positive and negative effects” does not answer which view you support, and the later suggestions about government, schools and families do not develop the task’s central issues. To improve, state a clear position and explain specific reasons—for example, that novelty attracts attention and differentiates products—then evaluate its benefits or drawbacks with a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response using an opening, supporting points and a concluding sentence, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “In addition” and “By concluding” show an awareness of sequencing. However, the ideas are not arranged in a clear progression: the discussion moves from general effects on people to advertising in Pakistan, then to broad advice about responsible decisions, without showing how these points answer the question. Several linking phrases introduce ideas that are not developed, and the conclusion repeats a general claim rather than summarising a position. Use separate paragraphs for the reasons and your evaluation, and make each paragraph develop one connected point with clear links between its sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, with frequent spelling errors that make the writing less clear. Words such as “important,” “situation” and “people” recur, while phrases including “new and orignal” and “effects can be reduced” remain general rather than expressing precise ideas about advertising. There are also inaccurate word choices and collocations, such as “many several reasons,” “advertise his business to print penaflexis” and “make responsible decisions.” These choices sometimes strain the reader’s understanding, although the general topic can still be followed. Build a more relevant range around the prompt—such as “attract consumers,” “differentiate a product” and “encourage purchases”—and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to add clauses using “because,” “and” and “if.” Some basic sentence meanings are understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction are frequent. For example, “it can be influence” has an incorrect verb form, “it may affects” uses the wrong form after a modal, and “new products and advertising is” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The final sentence, “if people and society should work together,” also has a faulty conditional structure. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled complex structures, checking each clause for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
