Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed that nowadays businesses are pushing an emphasise of new innovation in the advertisement. It is because companies want to attract more customers and to remain competitve. I believe this a positive development because it boosts the sale of products.

Nowadays companies are trying to convience people that their new products are different from other products that are available in the market. This trick is widely used in the advertisements because it attracts more customers as people get curious and they purchase the product. Moreover, the markets are highly competitive and to remain relevant in the market companies illustrate the difference between their and other's products usually through advertisements. For instance apple regulary highlights new features of its latest models such as a longer battery and a better camera compared to other phones in the market. As a result it attracts plenty of customers and the producation and sale of iphones increases.

Furthermore, the competition between companies introduces better technology and an improvement in features. Companies often spend more money on research and development, as businesses compete with one another they constantly try to introduce advance features, this is very benefitial for consumers as it results in a wide range of options, the customers can choose different type of technology such as some companies might provide a better camera and other's might give longer battery hours. For example, to counter apple samsung introduced improved phones with better camera while iphones provide longer battery life. As a result consumers get more than one option and they get to choose between both phones.

In conclusion, companies try to attract more consumers by labeling innovation different from other's in market, this often results in positive competition between businesses, as a result of competition companies introduce better technology and improved features.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response addresses both parts of the question: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to attract customers and compete, and you clearly judge this as positive because it can improve products and expand consumer choice. The Apple and Samsung examples help illustrate these points. The explanation of why novelty is emphasised is relevant, but the claim that it increases sales is asserted more than explored, and the examples mainly repeat the same competition-and-features idea. To strengthen the response, develop the reasoning further—for instance, explain how advertising novelty influences purchasing decisions or acknowledge that some claimed innovations may be superficial. Your position is clear, with some ideas supported, though development is uneven.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs develop reasons, and a conclusion restates the main argument. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “As a result” help show relationships. However, these connectors are sometimes repetitive or mechanical, and the final paragraph largely repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together in a fresh way. Some references are also unclear, particularly “the difference between their and other's products,” where the reader must infer the intended nouns. Use more precise referencing and vary how you connect ideas; within paragraphs, make the relationship between competition, innovation, and consumer benefit explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “competitive,” “research and development,” “features,” and “consumers,” which allows you to explain the topic clearly. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “longer battery life” and “wide range of options.” However, several word-choice and spelling errors reduce precision: “pushing an emphasise of new innovation” is unnatural, while “convience,” “competitve,” and “produaction” are misspelled. Some expressions are also imprecise or repetitive, including “different from other products” and repeated references to “better” features. Aim for accurate collocations and more varied terms for innovation, product improvements, and consumer appeal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses with “because” and “as,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “I believe this a positive development” is missing “is,” and “the difference between their and other's products” lacks clear grammatical parallelism. The sentence beginning “Companies often spend more money on research and development, as businesses compete…” joins two complete ideas with only a comma; separate them or use a suitable conjunction. There are also awkward structures such as “different type of technology.” Practise checking sentence boundaries, articles, and plural forms while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
