Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many business do advertise their products and talking about the features of the priducts. This is mainly to attract customer and remain competitive in the market in my opinion i think this is a negative situation because this might make cistomers to buy what they dont really need.

One major reason why businesss advertise their product as new one is to attract customers attention, makes sales, and remain competitive in the market, This is because they needs to let people know how good their products are before they can get customers to patronize them and slso to let them know their products are more good than others they might have been buying before.

Another major reason is because business want to increase their sales and makes a lot of profit, many customers are attracted to new products, ones they see new products they always want to be the first to get it because they believe its the latest one and advanced.

in conclusion, talking about the features of a product when advertisiing is a negative situation which might make people to be spend on unnecessary things.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both questions: you give reasons for highlighting novelty (attracting customers and increasing sales) and state that you see this as negative because people may buy things they do not need. However, the position is not fully clear in the opening, where “in my opinion i think” is repetitive, and the discussion remains limited. The claim that customers want to be first to buy new products is relevant, but it needs an example and explanation of how advertising encourages unnecessary spending. The conclusion repeats your view rather than drawing the reasons together. The response is also 67 words below the required minimum, which restricts how fully you can develop and support your ideas. Add a developed example and explain both the appeal of novelty and its consequences.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs giving reasons, and a conclusion. The sequence from attracting attention to increasing sales is easy to follow, and phrases such as “One major reason” and “Another major reason” help signal the paragraph purposes. However, the progression is somewhat mechanical, and the two body paragraphs overlap because both focus on attracting customers and making sales. Some links between ideas are unclear, particularly the long sentence beginning “This is because they needs to let people know…”. Improve cohesion by separating its ideas, using pronouns with clear references, and showing how each reason differs. A more developed final paragraph could connect the reasons to your negative judgement rather than simply repeat it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “competitive in the market,” “attract customers,” “latest,” and “advanced.” These expressions communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “products,” “customers,” and “new.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “priducts,” “cistomers,” “advertisiing,” and “more good.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, while “talking about the features” does not precisely express the idea of emphasising novelty. Build a wider set of accurate topic phrases, such as “promote product innovations” and “gain a competitive advantage,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “This is because they needs to let people know how good their products are before they can get customers…”. However, the longer structures are often faulty, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include “many business do advertise” (plural agreement), “they needs” (subject–verb agreement), and “might make cistomers to buy” (incorrect verb pattern). Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent: the opening runs into “in my opinion i think” without a clear sentence break, and several sentences begin after commas rather than full stops. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, infinitive patterns such as “make customers buy,” and punctuation. Use a few controlled complex sentences rather than joining many ideas together.
