Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays advertising plays a crucial role in society, as large number of products get their costumers attention with them, in order to increase their sales. However, many companies emphasizes that their product are better than others.I partially agree with this view point, as some of the products are actually made to be best but their are many false claims created by companies which are not true. This can lead to negative development as it does not provide the real truth to the consumers.

On the one hand, it can be seen that their are alot of big companies which had made their names in the market and are trying to make their product best out in the market. Moreover, there is alot of competition in the market which puts more pressure on the businesses to make a product which dominates other. Therefore, they uses the best things , in order to gain attention from the costomers. This leads to positive development as companies provides their best service and people are also satisfied with them.

On the other hand, there are companies which provide false information in the advertisement. They make false narratives about their products which are not even true and make fool of the people. For example, kitkat is best chocolate brand to be considered but many companies make their chocolate from low quality ingredients and then claim it to be better than the original chocolate. This leads to negative consequences as people are paying for things they have seen and got attracted with it but they are actually not true which may leads to dissatisfaction of costumers.

All in all it can be conluded that advertisements can contribute to both positive and negative development. However, it should be companies moral responsibilty to not just claim their product to be better than other, in order it should be so that people can trust them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question by offering reasons businesses promote products as superior or new, and by discussing positive and negative effects. Your position is that the development can be both, with false claims making it negative; this is also reflected in the conclusion. The point about competition encouraging companies to improve products is relevant, as is the example of chocolate advertising. However, the response focuses mainly on claims that products are “better” rather than explaining why businesses emphasise that products are new, so the central wording of the prompt is not fully explored. Some ideas also need clearer support: explain how genuine innovation benefits consumers, and make the example more specific and directly connected to misleading claims.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs beginning “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a concluding summary. This helps the reader follow the positive and negative sides of your argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Therefore, they uses the best things” does not clearly show how competition leads to the claimed benefit, and the long sentence about chocolate combines several points without a clear progression. References such as “it” and “them” are sometimes difficult to identify. To improve, make each paragraph develop one main point in a logical sequence, use pronouns with clear referents, and connect examples explicitly to the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “competition,” “false information,” “consumers,” “negative consequences,” and “dissatisfaction.” These choices make the general meaning clear, and phrases such as “false narratives” show an attempt to use more varied language. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “get their costumers attention,” “make fool of the people,” and “got attracted with it” are not natural expressions. Spelling errors such as “costumers,” “conluded,” and “responsibilty” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of natural advertising collocations, such as “attract consumers,” “make misleading claims,” and “gain a competitive advantage,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “as,” “which,” and “but,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries occur across the response. Examples include “many companies emphasizes,” “their product are,” “they uses,” and “companies provides”; these subjects and verbs do not agree. There are also faulty constructions such as “which may leads” and “it should be so that people can trust them.” Some sentences run together, particularly the chocolate example, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly matched verb, then divide long sentences where they contain several separate ideas.
