Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent time, businesses highlights that their products are different and new in some way, while promoting it, It is because they want to attract more customres for increasing sales. In my opinion, this approach can have some benefits, I believe it has largely a negative impact.
There are several reasons why companies focus on introducing new factors in advertisements. Firstly people are more attracted to new and innovative products, so eventually their focus automatically goes towards such kind of advertisements, and they become more curious and feel interested in buying them. Secondly, companies face morre competition in real world and market. Therefore, they try to make something different. For example, savana always launches their new collection every Friday, so it encourages people to purchase their latest collections.
However, I believe this trend has more negative impact. One major drawback is, it encourages to but unnecessary products even when they are not in use, simply because the trend has already gone of that collection. Moreover, some people exaggerate the benefits of their products to increase sales, which can mislead customers. For instance, a friend bought a dress from Savana and it was totally different in real and on application. This also contributes in cosumerism to but unnecessary products.
In conclusion, businessess highlights the new features of products mainly to attract customers and remain competitive. Nevertheless, I consider this a negative development for a society because, somehow it misleads the society and encourages in consumerism and increase the amount of waste in society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to attract customers and compete, and you clearly state that you see this as mainly negative. The discussion of unnecessary purchases, misleading claims and waste is relevant, while the Savana examples help make the points concrete. The response therefore covers the task and maintains a clear position. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the competition point is illustrated by a new collection being launched, but the link between this practice and competitive advantage could be explained more explicitly. The claim about increased waste in the conclusion is also not developed in the body. Extending these connections would make the argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph explaining businesses’ motives, a paragraph presenting disadvantages, and a conclusion that restates your view. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “However,” and “Moreover” make the main relationships easy to follow. This gives the essay coherent progression. Some cohesion is less controlled, though: the first paragraph joins several complete ideas with commas, and “This also contributes…” has an unclear reference because it is not immediately evident whether “This” refers to the misleading advertisement, the purchase, or consumerism. The conclusion also repeats ideas from the body rather than drawing them together. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing to make the links feel less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use adequate vocabulary to discuss advertising and consumer behaviour, including “innovative products,” “competition,” “mislead customers,” and “consumerism.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the examples are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “latest collections” and “exaggerate the benefits.” However, several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision: “customres,” “morre,” “businessess,” and “cosumerism” are misspelled, while “in real and on application” is not a natural way to describe a difference between an item and its online image. Phrases such as “new factors” and “more negative impact” are also vague or awkward. More accurate collocations and careful proofreading would strengthen the range you already demonstrate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect structures with “so” and “therefore,” and a concession introduced by “even when.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “businesses highlights” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “it encourages to but unnecessary products” lacks a correctly formed object and infinitive construction. The opening sentence also runs several clauses together with commas and an inappropriate capital letter after “it.” In “because, somehow it misleads,” the comma interrupts the clause unnecessarily. Aim to control agreement and sentence boundaries first, then check verb patterns such as “encourages people to buy.” This would make your varied structures more accurate.
