Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary world, businesses advertise their products by highlighting that their products are new in some way because it is an effective business strategy. I believe that it is a negative development because most often the claim is not legitimate.
One of the reasons for businesses to advertise by saying there is some thing new in their product is their strategy to enhance their business. The new generation is very keen on trying new products. Since they are aware of the functionality of the old products, they believe that the new addition provides the desired result. For example, a shampoo business advertises their product by highlighting the new ingredients will make hair 90% more stronger. Individuals who suffer from thinning of hair believe on the information advertised and spend money buying the products. As a result, the company sells a large number of products and earn more money.
In my opinion, it is a negative devlopment because the claims made in the advertise are not legitimate. The advertisment may spread false claims and many people believe them. They vaccum advertise highlights that the vaccum has a good suction due to the use of new technology. However, the vaccum, instead of cleaning spreads the tiny particle all over the house. People may decide to clean their house manually or buy another product which requires spending additional money. Therefore, a lot of time is wasted in searching for other vaccums that works better.
In conclusion, businesses these days use the best strategy that will help them sell their products. They achieve this by emphasising that their products are new in some way. I believe that it is a negative trend because many people often believe that the false claims made by the businesses are true and waste their money.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses stress novelty to attract consumers and increase sales, and you clearly state that you see this as negative because claims may be false. The shampoo and vacuum examples make your position relevant and show how consumers could be misled. This meets the task well, while the explanation of why consumers respond to novelty is less fully developed: the point that younger people know older products could be linked more clearly to curiosity, perceived improvement, or competition between brands. The vacuum example also focuses on one faulty product rather than explaining how novelty-based advertising more broadly affects consumers or businesses. Develop these links and support them with a little more precise reasoning to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction gives your position, separate body paragraphs explain the business motive and the negative effects, and the conclusion restates your view. Connectors such as “For example,” “As a result,” and “Therefore” help show relationships between ideas. However, some links feel mechanical, and the progression within the body paragraphs could be clearer. In the first body paragraph, the move from the “new generation” to the shampoo example needs a more explicit connection. The conclusion also repeats much of the introduction rather than drawing together the main reasoning. Use referencing and transitions more precisely, and make each paragraph’s central point and supporting explanation build in a clear sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “business strategy,” “functionality,” “false claims,” and “additional money,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, noticeable spelling and word-choice problems that limit precision: “devlopment,” “advertisment,” and “vaccum” are misspelled, while “believe on the information” is an unnatural collocation. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “new” and “products,” and “some thing new” is imprecise. Aim to vary repeated terms and check spelling carefully; choose collocations that sound natural in context, such as “trust the advertising claims” or “promote a new feature.” These improvements would make your vocabulary more accurate and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning with “Since” and “because,” and most ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, particularly with agreement and sentence construction. For example, “a shampoo business advertises their product” has a singular subject with a plural pronoun, and “the company sells a large number of products and earn more money” shifts from singular to plural agreement. In “the new addition provides the desired result,” the article and singular phrasing are not well matched to the general claim. There is also a faulty construction in “the vacuum, instead of cleaning spreads,” where punctuation and clause structure obscure the intended contrast. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation around inserted phrases, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
