In their advertising, businesses nowadays usually emphasise that their products are new in some way. Why is this? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, manufacturers and buisnesses mostly indicate that their items and products are innovative in order to promote them. Buisnesses usually advertise their products to look as new and innovative as possible in order to attract the customers. In this essay, I will explain the reason behind it before giving my own opinion.
The reason behind visual appealing and false advertisments is quite clear. Every single buisness has one motive; that is to attract as many buyers as possible. Consequently, selling involves advertising the products as something invented and buisnesses are independent of showcasing their products anyhow they want. Take an example of a US based company which sells manual lawn mowers. They advertise their products as some sort of innovation which does not produce noise and is eco-friendly. But in reality, there are already enough companies selling manual lawn mowers, they have not done something new, rather they are promoting it in such a way that it appeals to the costumers.
I believe it is a negative development towards the society and the buisness itself as it is promoting falsehood and scam products. This is also bad towards the real innovators who does produce something of their own but are treated in the same way due to the image of the other buisnesses. It is vital for development of a certain company to innovate a product rather than false advertising it.
To conclude everything up, although i understand that companies need to generate revenue by selling their products, but false advertising a product is not the only way to make sales. There are other things that can help them promote their products rahter than misleading promotions such as compaigns and surveys.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to attract buyers, and you clearly judge the practice negatively because it can mislead customers and disadvantage genuine innovators. The lawn-mower example helps illustrate how an existing product may be presented as innovative. However, the explanation of why businesses do this remains fairly general, and the example does not fully show the consequences for consumers or how the advertising creates a false impression. Your final suggestion of campaigns and surveys is also not clearly connected to how businesses can promote products honestly. Develop these points with more specific reasoning and support to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an explanation with an example, your opinion, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Consequently,” “But in reality,” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. This coherent arrangement is a strength. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “The reason behind visual appealing and false advertisments is quite clear” does not clearly introduce the reason, and “This is also bad towards the real innovators” relies on a vague reference to “This.” The conclusion also introduces campaigns and surveys without explaining their relationship to the preceding argument. Use clearer referencing and make each paragraph’s supporting points connect more explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “innovative,” “attract,” “eco-friendly,” “real innovators,” and “misleading promotions.” These choices make your main ideas understandable, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “buisnesses,” “advertisments,” “costumers,” “rahter,” and “compaigns.” There are also awkward or inaccurate word combinations, such as “visual appealing,” “selling involves advertising the products as something invented,” and “false advertising it.” These reduce precision and naturalness. Aim to use familiar collocations accurately, and proofread spelling carefully; a more precise vocabulary will help distinguish genuinely new products from products merely marketed as new.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures and a concession in the conclusion. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “real innovators who does produce” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “although i understand …, but” combines two contrasting structures incorrectly. In “it is vital for development of a certain company,” the article pattern is incomplete, and “the society” is not the appropriate article use in this context. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, particularly in the long lawn-mower example. Practise checking agreement, articles, and sentence structure while retaining your attempts at complex forms.
