Student answer (Band 7.5)
At the present time, the population of some countries includes a relatively large number of young adults, compared with the number of older people. Do the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages?
Nowadays, in some countries, there are more young adults than old people. This situation has both positive and negative sides. I believe that the advantages are greater than the disadvantages because young people can contribute more to the country's development and economy, although there are still some challenges.
On the one hand, having a large number of young adults brings many benefits. Firstly, young people are more energetic and willing to work hard. They can join different industries and help increase productivity. As a result, businesses can grow faster and the country's economy may become stronger. Secondly, young generation usually have better knowledge of technology and new ideas. They are more creative and can start new companies or improve old systems. For example, many successful startups are created by young entrepreneurs. This not only create jobs but also improve people's lives in different ways.
On the other hand, there are also some disadvantages. If there are too many young people, it can be difficult for everyone to find a good job. This may increase unemployment and cause financial problems for many families. In addition, governments need to spend more money on education, training and employment programs. If these needs are not managed properly, some young adults may become frustrated and this can create social issues.
In conclusion, although having a high number of young adults may create pressure on jobs and public services, I think the benefits are much more important. With proper planning and enough opportunities, young people can become a strong force for the country's future and help it develop in many positive ways.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding economic growth and innovation are relevant and well-supported with examples like 'startups'. The counter-arguments regarding unemployment and government expenditure are also clearly presented. The ideas are extended sufficiently to meet the requirements of the prompt. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific real-world examples or deeper analysis of the long-term societal implications of a youth-heavy population, rather than relying on general statements. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the question asked.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In addition' effectively to link your points. However, the transitions between some sentences could be more sophisticated to improve the flow. For instance, the link between the second and third sentences in the second paragraph is slightly mechanical. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the logical flow is consistent throughout the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'productivity', 'entrepreneurs', and 'financial problems' correctly. The language is generally natural and conveys your meaning clearly. However, the vocabulary is somewhat functional and lacks the 'less common' or 'idiomatic' items required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations or nuanced synonyms. For example, instead of 'help increase', you could use 'catalyze' or 'bolster'. While there are no significant spelling or word-choice errors, expanding your lexical repertoire would allow for more sophisticated expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and grammatically sound, which ensures that communication is never impeded. There are a few minor errors, such as 'young generation usually have' (should be 'the young generation usually has') and 'This not only create jobs' (should be 'creates'). These are minor slips rather than systematic errors. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for a greater variety of complex structures, such as conditional clauses or passive constructions, and ensure subject-verb agreement is consistently accurate throughout the text.
