Student answer (Band 7.0)

At present, many countries have a relatively large proportion of young adults compared with older people. While this trend has some drawbacks, I believe its advantages are far more significant.

A youthful population provides a strong workforce, which is one of the greatest benefits. Young adults are generally healthier, more energetic, and more willing to learn new skills. As a result, they contribute greatly to economic growth by increasing productivity and encouraging innovation. Many successful businesses and technological breakthroughs are driven by young entrepreneurs and skilled professionals. In addition, a larger working-age population generates more tax revenue, enabling governments to invest in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

Another major advantage is that younger generations tend to adapt quickly to technological and social changes. They are often more creative and open to new ideas, making them well suited to industries such as information technology, engineering, and scientific research. Countries with a high proportion of young people are therefore better positioned to compete in the global economy and achieve long-term development.

However, there are some disadvantages. If governments fail to create sufficient employment opportunities, high levels of youth unemployment may occur, leading to poverty, crime, and social unrest. Moreover, providing quality education, healthcare, and housing for a rapidly growing young population requires substantial financial resources. Without effective planning, these challenges can place considerable pressure on public services.

In conclusion, although a large youth population may create difficulties such as unemployment and increased demand for public resources, I believe the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages. With appropriate investment in education and job creation, young adults can become a country’s greatest asset and drive sustainable economic and social progress.
