Student answer (Band 7.5)
In several nations today, the demographic profile leans heavily towards young adults rather than senior citizens. While this trend poses certain socio-economic challenges, I firmly believe that the advantages of having a youthful population significantly outweigh the disadvantages. On the one hand, a major drawback of a predominantly young population is the immense pressure it places on national infrastructure. Governments must allocate vast resources to build schools, universities, and entry-level housing. Furthermore, if the economy does not expand fast enough to generate sufficient employment opportunities, a high concentration of young adults can lead to widespread unemployment. This economic strain can occasionally result in social unrest or rising crime rates, as young people struggle to find financial stability. On the other hand, the economic benefits of a young workforce are substantial and long-lasting. A large pool of young adults means an abundance of labor, which attracts foreign investment and drives industrial growth. Unlike aging societies that suffer from labor shortages and high healthcare costs for the elderly, youthful countries possess a dynamic workforce that pays taxes and sustains the economy. Moreover, young people are generally more adaptable, technologically adept, and open to innovation, which fosters entrepreneurship and accelerates technological advancement within the country. In conclusion, although a large population of young adults can create competitive job markets and strain public services, the potential for economic dynamism and innovation is unmatched. Therefore, the merits of a young demographic clearly eclipse the downsides, provided that the government invests wisely in education and job in the creation.
